Associate Director – Civil Infrastructure & Flood Risk
Greater Manchester | Permanent
Elb Recruit are working with an established and growing engineering consultancy in Greater Manchester who are looking to appoint an Associate Director to strengthen their civil infrastructure and flood risk team.
They work with a range of key developers across the North of England on a variety of commercial, retail and industrial schemes. You’ll have the opportunity to manage projects, develop and strengthen key client relationships, and build your commercial business development skills as you establish yourself within the business.
The consultancy has a strong order book and an excellent pipeline of future work. They’re looking for someone who can make the role their own, take ownership of key projects and client relationships, and play an important role in developing and growing the team and wider business.
This is a senior role for someone with a strong background in civil infrastructure, drainage, flood risk and development projects, who is comfortable leading projects, dealing directly with clients and helping to develop a team.
The business has a strong pipeline of residential, commercial and mixed-use development work, so there is plenty of variety and the opportunity to get involved from early planning and feasibility through to detailed design and construction.
The role
You’ll be responsible for leading projects and providing senior technical input across civil infrastructure, drainage and flood risk.

Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading civil infrastructure and flood risk projects from feasibility through to construction.
- Preparing and reviewing Flood Risk Assessments and drainage strategies.
- Developing surface water and SuDS solutions for development sites.
- Managing and coordinating multidisciplinary project teams.
- Liaising with clients, Local Authorities, the Environment Agency and water companies.
- Managing planning and statutory approvals, including S38, S278, S104 and S106.
- Providing technical input into planning applications and masterplans.
- Coordinating hydraulic modelling and interpreting modelling outputs.
- Managing project programmes, resources and budgets.
- Reviewing technical work and supporting the development of junior and senior engineers.
- Building relationships with existing clients and getting involved in winning new work.
- Supporting the continued growth of the civil infrastructure and flood risk team.
About you
We’re looking for someone with a strong background in civil engineering within the development and infrastructure sector.
You’ll ideally have:
- Significant experience in civil infrastructure, drainage and/or flood risk.
- Strong experience with Flood Risk Assessments and drainage strategies.
- Good knowledge of SuDS and surface water management.
- Experience working on residential, commercial or mixed-use developments.
- Experience dealing with Local Authorities, the Environment Agency and water companies.
- A good understanding of the planning process and relevant statutory approvals.
- Experience managing projects and leading teams.
- Good client-facing and communication skills.
- Commercial awareness and an interest in developing client relationships and winning work.

Chartered or working towards chartership with ICE, CIWEM or a similar professional body would be beneficial.
