Associate Director - Dams & Reservoirs Engineering

Ongoing Contract

Flexible working location - open to applications from Scotland or England

We are partnering with a leading engineering consultancy to recruit an experienced Associate Director - Dams & Reservoirs Engineering.

This is an outstanding opportunity for a Chartered Civil Engineer to take a leading role in the delivery of complex reservoir, dam, and hydraulic structure projects while helping shape the future growth of a nationally recognised engineering practice.

This position offers the chance to work on technically challenging projects, provide strategic technical leadership, and support the development of engineering teams delivering critical infrastructure solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of engineers and scientists for delivery of technical design work on complex multi-disciplinary reservoir and hydraulic structures projects following relevant national and project specific design codes and standards, and to high-quality levels.
  • Lead on the development of project design deliverables for Reservoir aspects of complex multi-disciplinary projects and work with the project management team to successfully manage time and budgets to key project milestones and programmes.
  • Responsible for managing production, reviewing, and approving technical deliverables such as design reports, drawings, calculations, and scopes of work.
  • Grow, develop, and manage the Dams, Reservoirs and Hydraulic Structures Engineering capabilities within the regional and/or national practice.
  • Work independently with guidance in only the most challenging situations. Exercise personal judgement to solve difficult problems where appropriate and provide guidance to junior team members.
  • Advise client, operational, project, or service activities within project teams and wider D&AT Practice initiatives.
  • Manage or collaborate on technical aspects of bid proposals.
  • Work closely with a multi-disciplinary team in the UK and overseas to deliver integrated design solutions.

  • A degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
  • Chartered Civil Engineer.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrable experience of successfully leading design of a broad range of reservoir safety improvement works.
  • Proven experience in leading large-scale engineering design delivery, within a consultancy, including multidisciplinary environments, with the ability to assimilate complex project requirements, integrate cross-disciplinary inputs, and direct teams to deliver technically robust and commercially successful outcomes.
  • Takes broad perspective to identify innovative solutions, challenges the status quo.
  • Demonstrates in-depth knowledge and broad expertise in dams, reservoirs and hydraulic structures engineering including design of improvements to or new build of earth / concrete dams, weirs, hydraulic structures, access and accessibility and construction logistics.
  • Demonstrates exemplary communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to diverse stakeholders.
  • Expert knowledge of current design codes and standards as well as industry best practices, including CDM Regulations.
  • Experience in the Water market is essential.
  • Comfortable liaising with stakeholders at all levels both internally and externally.
  • Provide technical leadership within the discipline across the regional and national engineering practice, influencing wider business initiatives and promoting engineering best practice.
