The Role
We are seeking a technically strong and commercially aware Qualified Accountant (ICAEW or ACCA) to join our Audit & Accounting Technical Department.
This role is ideally suited to an individual with strong audit experience and a deep interest in technical accounting and audit quality. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting engagement teams, enhancing audit quality, and ensuring compliance with evolving regulatory requirements.
You will work closely alongside the Technical Partner to tackle complex accounting and auditing matters and to advise on ongoing practice matters. In summary, your primary responsibility will be to be the firm’s first point of contact to answer technical queries, to perform technical reviews and to help issue technical guidance and training on emerging issues.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Support & Advisory
- Provide technical accounting and auditing support to engagement teams across the firm.
- Advise on the application of IFRS, FRS 102, and UK GAAP, as well as ISAs (UK).
- Assist in resolving complex accounting issues, including financial instruments, revenue recognition, and impairment.
- Support consultations on audit judgments, reporting matters, and disclosures under both UK GAAP and IFRS.

Audit Quality & Compliance
- Perform and support audit quality reviews, including Engagement Quality, other hot (in-flight), and cold (post-completion) file reviews.
- Identify areas for improvement and support remediation of audit quality findings.
- Contribute to the firm’s system of quality management (SoQM) and internal compliance framework.
- Assist in preparation for and response to external regulatory inspections (e.g., ICAEW, FRC, ACCA).
- Monitor adherence to internal audit methodology and professional standards.
Regulatory & Risk
- Support the firm in maintaining compliance with regulatory and professional standards.
- Keep abreast of developments in audit regulation, ethical standards, and corporate reporting requirements.
- Assist with the implementation of changes arising from regulatory updates or inspection findings.
Training & Development
- Deliver technical training sessions to audit and accounting teams on IFRS, UK GAAP, and auditing standards.
- Develop and maintain technical guidance, manuals, and briefing materials.
- Provide coaching and support to audit teams on technical and quality matters.
Research & Technical Updates
- Monitor developments in IFRS, UK GAAP, and auditing standards.
- Prepare internal technical updates, alerts, and thought leadership content.
- Provide insight into emerging technical and regulatory issues affecting the firm and its clients.
Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience

Essential
- Qualified Accountant (ICAEW or ACCA)
- Strong external audit experience gained within a UK accountancy practice.
- Strong technical knowledge of:
- IFRS
- FRS 102 / UK GAAP
- ISAs (UK), ISQMs (UK) and Ethical Standards
- Proven experience in audit quality reviews (hot and/or cold file reviews).
- Good understanding of audit regulation and compliance requirements.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical matters clearly and concisely.
Desirable
- Experience within a technical, audit quality, or compliance role.
- Exposure to FRC/ICAEW regulatory reviews or inspections.
- Experience dealing with complex or PIE/listed audits, including IFRS reporting.
- Involvement in methodology development or audit policy setting.

- Our standard working week is a 37.5-hour week on a hybrid basis
- Core working hours are 10am - 4pm Monday to Friday
