Overview
AtkinsRéalis have a vacancy for an Associate Director of Building Surveying to work in a multi-disciplinary environment to deliver a full suite of Building Surveying duties. The role is based within our growing Bristol building surveying team, where you’ll also be working alongside our multidisciplinary design and consultancy team in our Buildings and Places Business. We can offer extremely varied and interesting work with a number of high-profile public and private sector clients.
This role has excellent prospects for professionals who enjoys working collaboratively within a vibrant team, and who has experience in managing client relationships and enjoys variety across all areas of Building Surveying, and who will provide a first-class service to our clients.
As part of our continuous expansion in the UK market, we are looking for an Associate Director of Building Surveying to consolidate and grow our Building Surveying offering in Bristol. The successful candidate will work closely with the Head of Building Surveying and regional Southwest and Wales Practice to deliver the business plan and maintain sustained growth within the various markets in which we operate.
Working within a growing and well-established Building Surveying team, you will combine hands-on technical expertise with business development and client engagement, supporting major clients across healthcare, education, residential, defence, commercial, infrastructure and public sector portfolios.
Your role
- Playing an instrumental role in generating repeat business, winning new work and developing new business opportunities.
- New business proposals and tendering, liaising with the marketing team to ensure highest quality marketing and promotional materials.
- Take responsibility for some key projects and the account management and customer care for major clients.
- Be a focal point and trusted mentor for part of the well-established building surveying team.
- Contribute to the strategic plans for the business and help maintain and develop business for the future.
- Maintain service quality standards and a culture of continuous improvement and constructive expertise.
- Collaboration with other service streams, sectors and the wider AtkinsRéalis business to provide combined and innovative solutions improving our shared success.
- Ensuring the quality and timeliness of service delivery to clients, acting as primary interface to help build clients' confidence in the team.
- Participating in relevant internal/external training initiatives.
- Controlling workload and resources.
- Keeping abreast of industry issues and developments in best practice.
- Managing and supporting teams to enable a strongly motivated, engaged and high performing function.
- Managing team members including undertaking performance and development reviews (PDRs) and mentoring and coaching less experienced colleagues.
- Providing guidance, stewardship and technical expertise to team members.
- Effectively communicating and interacting with others, in accordance with the organisation's values.

About you
- To hold a relevant construction qualification and be a professional member of a recognised professional institution i.e. MRICS/FRICS.
- A track record of generating and developing opportunities and winning new work.
- To have the ability to manage a project throughout its lifecycle.
- Have experience of both project delivery and the completion of survey programmes.
- The ability to demonstrate a highly motivated, collaborative approach to work matters.
- Detailed knowledge of working within the Building Surveying and Consultancy Services market.
- Management experience of successful project delivery from inception to handover.
- Ability to manage and develop a team.
- Experience of client management and development.
- Ability to deal with Clients and/or the business at a senior level.
- Attend sector led events locally and nationally to promote the business.
- Driving Licence/Level of mobility required in the role.
- Be engaged in commercial management and profitability monitoring.
- Produce scope, fee and contractual proposals.

As well as technical competence, we are looking for someone with the ability to think laterally, who possesses first class communication skills, has strong commercial awareness, who will provide an exemplary service to our clients.
You will need experience of nurturing and developing consultancy teams on behalf of the client and should possess demonstrable skills in the following areas:
- Engage and develop existing and new clients to contribute to the growth and development of the business in the region.
- Managing and delivering consultancy services within the Building Surveying market.
- Key client account management for high profile projects.
- Ability to support and develop a team of dynamic professionals across multiple sites and teams.
