A highly successful medium-size Consultancy has recently instructed Beach Baker to recruit a Chartered Building Surveyor at Associate Director level within their expanding Bristol office.
Role Features:
- Office based in the City Centre.
- Joining a small Building Surveying team of 2 people in Bristol (Beach Baker placed the hiring manager) and part of a national team of 20.
- Dealing with a full range of instructions on a variety of commercial properties (no public sector work).
- Workload is a mix of professional and project-based instructions.
- Very non-corporate culture and strong company values (people-focused company).
So where will you be working and what’s in it for you?
- Fantastic office location with easy access to local amenities including Temple Meads Train Station, Cabot Circus, and Harbourside.
- The office has been recently refurbished with full modern shower and cycle facilities.
- The successful candidate will be the ‘number 2’ in a small team, therefore having a clear career progression path.
- Working with some of the best clients in the market (mainly pension funds) who are continuing to invest in property, meaning a busy pipeline of work for 2026 and beyond.
- Interesting spread of work and will not be pigeon-holed in one area, however the business is also happy to support someone who wants to specialize or create their own niche. So, this role would be great for someone who hasn’t had the chance to really make a role their own, this is your chance.
- Straightforward company processes (including no timesheets) and no internal politics which mean their surveyors are given lots of working autonomy to deliver the best service to clients.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
