Department: Consultancy

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Birmingham

Reporting To: Graham Oliphant

Description

Harmony is on a mission to be the best life safety partner to work with and for. Rated an ‘Outstanding Employer’ by Best Companies in 2025, we are only getting bigger and stronger — and we’re looking for A-players to help us get there.

We are passionate about making a difference and obsessed with quality. Our goal is to build a world where every resident can sleep safely at night, knowing their home is 100% safe.

Our Consultancy division is growing rapidly across London, and we are looking for an Associate Director to lead the function — taking ownership of our fire engineering consultancy operation, driving revenue, building a high-performing team, and establishing Harmony as the go-to name for FRAEW, fire engineering, and fire safety consultancy in the residential and social housing market.

This is a senior leadership role with real commercial accountability. You will be the face of Harmony’s consultancy in London — leading from the front on complex commissions, winning and retaining major clients, and building the team and infrastructure that will take the division to the next level.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and own Harmony’s fire engineering consultancy operation in London — with full accountability for revenue, pipeline, quality, and team performance.
  • Drive business development across the London market — identifying and winning new consultancy commissions with housing associations, local authorities, developers, and managing agents.
  • Lead and deliver the most complex fire engineering commissions including FRAEW assessments in accordance with PAS 9980, fire strategies, and specialist fire safety consultancy.
  • Build, lead, and develop the London consultancy team — recruiting, mentoring, and performance-managing fire engineers at all levels.
  • Serve as the senior technical authority and quality assurer for the consultancy team — ensuring all outputs are defensible, accurate, and client-ready.
  • Own key client relationships at a senior level, providing strategic advice and ensuring Harmony delivers exceptional service on every commission.
  • Report on consultancy performance — revenue, pipeline, utilisation, and quality — to the Head of Consultancy and senior leadership.
  • Monitor changes in legislation, standards, and market conditions and ensure the consultancy offering evolves accordingly.
  • Contribute to Harmony’s wider strategic development — supporting the growth of the consultancy nationally as the London model matures.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

At Harmony, we ask a lot — and we give a lot back. The hours are real, the standards are high and the work is demanding, but for those who show up, deliver and go the extra mile, the rewards follow. A-players here enjoy a competitive salary, a Personal Development Plan with leadership mentoring and ongoing training, unlimited holiday, a bonus scheme paying up to 50% of annual salary, private medical insurance, enhanced maternity and paternity, lunch, snacks and refreshments on us every day (fresh fruit and Takeaway Friday included), a team social budget, cycle to work, an auto-enrolment pension, two major company events a year and our Reward and Recognition scheme — including European mini-breaks for those who go above and beyond.
