Position Summary:

Quotient is seeking an experienced Associate Director, Head of High Throughput Laboratory to lead and continuously develop the high-throughput laboratory supporting our somatic genomics platform. This is a pivotal leadership role within a rapidly growing biotechnology company, responsible for delivering high-quality, reproducible multi-omic data across Quotient's disease portfolio. Reporting to the Head of Research Strategy & Operations, the incumbent will lead multidisciplinary teams spanning histology, flow cytometry, molecular biology and scientific management, ensuring laboratory delivery remains aligned with research priorities while building a high-performing, scalable function. Working in close partnership with scientific leadership, assay development, automation and research project management, you will translate research priorities into efficient laboratory execution, embedding operational excellence, scientific quality and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, develop and inspire a multidisciplinary team of Scientific Managers, Subject Matter Experts and Research Associates, fostering a high-performing, collaborative and accountable culture
  • Translate company strategy and portfolio priorities into clear laboratory delivery plans, ensuring the High Throughput Laboratory consistently delivers high-quality, reproducible scientific data safely, efficiently and to agreed project milestones while maintaining the highest standards of health and safety, regulatory compliance and data integrity
  • Provide operational leadership across Histology, Flow Cytometry, Molecular Biology and Scientific Sample Management, ensuring laboratory capacity, capability and resource planning support both current and future portfolio demands
  • Partner closely with Research Project Management, Scientific Leadership, Assay Development and Automation to align laboratory execution with integrated project plans, operational priorities and future platform requirements
  • Develop, implement and continuously improve scalable laboratory systems, workflows and operational best practices that increase laboratory quality, efficiency, throughput and reproducibility
  • Develop and monitor laboratory performance metrics and KPIs, using data to drive operational performance, capacity planning and continuous improvement across the High Throughput Laboratory
  • Identify opportunities for strategic investment in laboratory infrastructure, equipment, staffing and technology to ensure laboratory capability evolves alongside Quotient's research portfolio
  • Develop organisational capability through succession planning, workforce development, coaching and creation of clear career pathways, ensuring Scientific Managers and Subject Matter Experts continue to grow as future organisational leaders
  • Build strong collaborative relationships across Research, Data Science and AI, Assay Development, Laboratory Operations, Project Management and external partners, representing the High Throughput Laboratory in organisational planning, governance and strategic discussions
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and psychological safety, empowering teams to challenge constructively, embrace innovation and continuously improve the way science is delivered

Qualifications:

Essential

  • MSc or PhD in Biology or a related scientific discipline with significant post-academic biotechnology experience
  • Significant experience leading and developing multidisciplinary laboratory teams
  • Proven experience operating and scaling high-throughput laboratory environments
  • Strong understanding of genomics and multi-omics workflows and high-throughput laboratory operations
  • Demonstrated success implementing operational improvements that increase quality, efficiency and scalability
  • Experience balancing day-to-day laboratory delivery with long-term capability development
  • Excellent understanding of laboratory health & safety, quality systems and regulatory compliance
  • Outstanding people leadership, coaching and organisational development skills

Desirable

  • Experience supporting genomics-based drug target identification and early discovery research
  • Experience working collaboratively with laboratory automation teams to implement workflow improvements and new technologies
  • Experience working within rapidly scaling biotechnology organisations
  • Experience supporting matrix organisations delivering multiple concurrent research programs
  • Experience embedding operational excellence methodologies into working teams
