Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and ambitious Associate Director – Mechanical Engineering to join our client's growing team. This role is suited to a senior mechanical engineer who combines strong technical expertise with leadership capability, commercial awareness, and the ability to deliver complex engineering projects.
The successful candidate will play a key role in leading mechanical engineering design activities, managing project delivery, mentoring engineers, and developing strong relationships with clients and stakeholders. You will contribute to the continued growth of the business by providing technical leadership, delivering high-quality engineering solutions, and identifying opportunities to expand our services.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership across a range of mechanical engineering projects, ensuring high-quality and innovative design solutions.
- Lead and oversee mechanical design teams, supporting engineers and developing technical capability within the business.
- Manage the delivery of projects from concept through to detailed design, construction, installation, and completion.
- Act as a senior technical point of contact for clients, consultants, contractors, and project stakeholders.
- Review and approve engineering designs, calculations, specifications, reports, and technical documentation.
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
- Support business development activities, including client engagement, proposals, tenders, and identifying new opportunities.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships through effective communication and technical expertise.
- Drive improvements in engineering processes, standards, and best practice.
- Mentor and support the professional development of engineers and project teams.
- Contribute to strategic planning and the continued growth of the engineering function.

Requirements

- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Significant experience delivering mechanical engineering projects within a consultancy, design, or technical engineering environment.
- Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, engineering standards, and industry best practice.
- Proven experience leading engineering teams and managing complex technical projects.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage confidently with clients and senior stakeholders.
- Strong commercial awareness and understanding of project delivery requirements.
- Ability to provide technical direction while balancing project, client, and business objectives.
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards professional accreditation.
- Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering projects.
- Established client relationships and experience supporting business development activities.
- Experience mentoring engineers and building high-performing technical teams.
- Knowledge of relevant industry sectors and emerging engineering technologies.
