We are looking for an Associate Director – Mine Water & Water Resources to join our growing UK and Ireland Mine Water team. This role can be based from any of our UK or Ireland offices.
A Little More About Your Role…
- Providing strategic leadership across a portfolio of complex mine water, hydrology and water resources projects, ensuring technical excellence, commercial performance and successful client outcomes.
- Acting as a recognised technical authority in mine water management, hydrology and water resources, providing expert advice and direction on challenging projects across the mining lifecycle.
- Leading the development and review of conceptual site models, water balance assessments, flood risk assessments, hydraulic and hydrological studies, water management strategies and engineering design solutions.
- Directing multi-disciplinary project teams across feasibility studies, environmental assessments, permitting, detailed design and operational support for mining projects globally.
- Providing technical leadership in the application of climate change resilience and adaptation assessments, integrating climate projections into engineering and water management solutions.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with key clients, acting as a trusted advisor and supporting strategic account development across the mining sector.
- Leading bids, tenders and major proposals, developing winning strategies and securing new opportunities for the Mine Water and wider Mining business.
- Taking responsibility for project governance, including commercial performance, resource management, quality assurance, programme delivery and risk management.
- Supporting the growth and development of the Mine Water team through recruitment, mentoring, coaching and succession planning activities.
- Collaborating with technical specialists across WSP's global business to deliver innovative, sustainable and integrated solutions for our clients.
- Championing technical excellence, innovation, digital delivery, sustainability and health and safety across all aspects of project delivery.
- Representing WSP externally through industry events, conferences, professional institutions and client engagements, helping to strengthen our reputation within the mining and water sectors.

What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate…
- Significant experience within mine water management, hydrology, water resources or water engineering, ideally gained within mining, infrastructure or environmental consultancy sectors.
- A strong track record of leading complex technical projects and multidisciplinary teams across multiple jurisdictions and project phases.
- Extensive knowledge of water management infrastructure, hydrological and hydraulic assessment, flood risk management, water balance modelling and water resources planning.
- Experience supporting major mining projects through feasibility studies, environmental impact assessments, permitting, design development and operational support.
- Proven ability to manage project finances, resources, programmes, contractual requirements and commercial performance.
- Strong client-facing and business development capability, with experience developing long-term client relationships and winning new work.
- Demonstrable leadership experience, including mentoring technical specialists, developing high-performing teams and supporting future business growth.
- Excellent communication, presentation and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence clients, regulators and senior decision-makers.
- Experience using industry-standard hydraulic, hydrological and water resource modelling tools, with programming and digital delivery expertise considered advantageous.
- Chartered Engineer, Chartered Hydrologist or Chartered Professional with a relevant professional institution, or an equivalent recognised qualification.
