Associate Director, Investment Development

Salary: £71,481–£82,059 per year

Location: London

Working Arrangement: Hybrid – approximately 60% remote and 40% face-to-face in the London office, external meetings or travel

Contract: 2-year fixed-term contract, with potential to renew

Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week

Overview

Our client, an international non-profit organisation focused on water security and climate resilience, is seeking an Associate Director, Investment Development to design, structure and scale blended and private finance solutions for water and water-related investments.

This senior role will work with investors, development finance institutions, international teams and programme partners to originate and structure commercially viable investments, mobilise public and private capital and develop innovative financing solutions across international markets.

The role offers a salary of £71,481–£82,059, hybrid working, 36 days’ holiday including bank holidays and an employer pension contribution of up to 10%.

Responsibilities

  • Originate, structure and develop opportunities for private investment in water supply, sanitation and related infrastructure.
  • Support the structuring of commercially viable investments in industrial water-efficiency technologies and process improvements.
  • Lead advisory work supporting the evaluation, negotiation and implementation of public-private partnership and concession investments.
  • Mobilise public and private finance for climate resilience interventions and investment programmes.
  • Develop and scale innovative financing instruments, including outcomes-based bonds, blended finance facilities and guarantees.
  • Develop financing models including service-based, leasing and vendor finance structures.
  • Work closely with senior leadership, investors, development finance institutions, international teams and programme partners.
  • Support the expansion and scaling of investment development activity across multiple international markets.

Requirements

  • Graduate degree in economics, business administration, finance, engineering or a related field, or a first degree in one of these areas combined with specialised project development or financial institution experience.
  • At least 10 years’ professional experience, including substantial transactional experience with a developer, financial institution or transaction advisory organisation.
  • At least five years’ experience financing private-sector infrastructure through project finance or public-private partnerships, and/or financing corporate water stewardship investments.
  • Ability to investigate complex problems and develop innovative financing solutions suited to different country contexts.
  • Experience leading teams, managing consultants, building collaborative relationships and mentoring others with cultural sensitivity.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, including strong presentation skills with funders and international partners.
  • Ability to manage projects and deliverables to a high standard, meet deadlines and work effectively in changing circumstances.

Desirable

  • Experience in blended finance, including successfully financed transactions incorporating concessional, grant or viability-gap funding.
  • Climate finance experience, particularly developing successful proposals to climate finance or grant-making institutions.
  • A recognised investment, finance or PPP qualification such as CFA, FRM, CAIA, ACCA, ICAEW, CPA or CP3P.
  • Experience in the water and sanitation sector.
  • Foreign language skills relevant to international markets.
