We are looking for an experienced US tax professional at Associate Director (Senior Manager) level to join our pre-eminent private client advisory team in London and Cambridge. Our team sits within a wider Private multi-disciplinary team and we focus on advising the most influential private clients and families including: single family offices, international families and inward investors, private equity and hedge fund owners, trustees (UK and non-UK), on all of their tax affairs.

We are looking for experienced US tax professionals to join our market-leading Private Client team in Cambridge or London.

Our team is a multi-disciplinary team that focuses on building long-lasting relationships and advising the world’s wealthiest and most influential individuals and families, their structures, and their businesses.

We advise on all aspects of an individual’s tax affairs. Many of our clients also have their own single-family offices and other personal wealth structures and businesses and our advice is therefore varied and includes the taxation of remuneration from Private Funds, the tax implications of complex investment structures, residency & domicile matters, the taxation of cross-border transactions and succession and long term wealth planning.

You will become part of a very dynamic and successful team, and help the practice maintain and grow the firm’s presence in the market where we already have a great deal of experience and serve many of the top private clients in the UK. In particular we advise leaders of seven of the top twenty PE firms globally and act for a large number of Single Family Offices around the world. The variety and complexity of our clients’ affairs means that you will have plenty of development opportunities – both technically and personally - as well as the chance to learn and work with the market leaders.

As an Associate Director, your responsibilities may include:

  • Assist Directors and Partners with our client relationships, including technical delivery, project management, client conversations and operational management.
  • Exercise commercial judgement, making decisions on how to progress work, in consultation with Directors/Partners.
  • Lead preparation of high quality and technically accurate tax technical advice to be delivered in a straightforward manner to the client.
  • Coach and mentor more junior members of the team who will assist you in your work but also be looking to you to help develop them.
  • Oversee the timely preparation and submission of US tax returns to ensure client obligations are met.
  • Take responsibility for the timely delivery of work product to our clients.
  • Identify opportunities on existing accounts.
  • Contribute towards our brand by building a network amongst professional advisors and potential clients.

Successful candidates will have:

  • Experience as a US private client tax advisor gained within a private practice firm, a legal firm or industry providing tax technical advice.
  • Experience reviewing US individual income tax returns, either as a US only advisor or as a US/UK dual handler.
  • Enrolled Agent (EA), US CPA, or US State legal bar admission.
  • Experience of working with UHNW private clients and family offices.
  • Strong technical skills across broad range of US private client tax areas.
  • Experience of owning a portfolio of clients and the ability to form and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Strong people/leadership skills and experience of developing others.
  • Commercial awareness and the desire to understand your clients' businesses and/ or objectives.
  • Looking for long term career in practice with opportunity to progress.

Personal independence

Regulation and controls are standard practice in our industry and Deloitte is no exception. These controls provide important legal protection for both you and the firm. We are subject to a number of audit regulations, one of which requires that certain colleagues abide by specific personal independence constraints (e.g., in relation to any financial interests and employment relationships). This can mean that you and your "Immediate Family Members" are not permitted to hold certain financial interests (shares, funds, bonds etc.) with audit clients of the firm, and also prohibitions on certain employment relationships (e.g., you are not permitted to hold a secondary employment role with SEC audit clients of the firm whilst being employed by the firm).
