Job Description
WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?
We are seeking an Associate Director, Sr. Business Analyst to drive product execution for RBC Capital Markets’ Front Office Regulatory Technology & Supervision platform. FORTRESS provides critical trade compliance checks that traders and sales teams rely on daily to ensure regulatory compliance across multiple asset classes.
Reporting to the Director, FORTRESS, you will translate strategy into tactical execution, supporting roadmap planning and driving delivery for pre-trade check capabilities across FORTRESS UI, FORTRESS API, and rules engine integrations. You will work cross-functionally with Engineering, Regulatory Operations, Trading Supervision, and Compliance to deliver regulatory check features that Trading Desks depend on. You will leverage AI-powered tools to enhance productivity and explore AI/ML applications in regulatory workflows.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

Product Execution & Planning
- Translate strategy into detailed requirements and execution plans for pre-trade checks.
- Support quarterly planning and feature prioritization.
- Drive sprint planning and backlog grooming.
- Identify opportunities to leverage AI/ML for workflow automation and productivity gains.
- Report progress and risks to leadership.

Requirements & Documentation
- Lead requirements sessions with Trading Desks, RegOps, and Compliance teams.
- Write comprehensive business requirement documents, functional specifications, user stories, acceptance criteria, and process flows.
- Maintain product documentation.

Hands-On Delivery Management
- Manage backlog in Jira.
- Participate in agile ceremonies.
- Work directly with developers on technical design.
- Review code changes and API specifications.
- Ensure on-time delivery of commitments.

Data Analysis & Reporting
- Write SQL queries to extract insights from FORTRESS databases.
- Analyze pre-trade check usage patterns, volumes, rejection rates, and performance metrics.
- Create dashboards and use data to prioritize improvements.

Testing & Quality Assurance
- Write detailed test cases and acceptance criteria.
- Coordinate UAT sessions with trading desks and RegOps.
- Execute testing, validate results, and sign off on releases.

Stakeholder Management
- Build working relationships with VPs, Senior Traders, RegOps Managers, and Engineering Leads.
- Conduct regular check-ins, manage expectations, facilitate requirements workshops, and escalate issues appropriately.

Regulatory Analysis & Platform Integration
- Analyze pre-trade regulatory requirements (MiFID II, Dodd-Frank, KYC, Credit Checks).
- Partner with RegOps and Compliance to translate regulations into system requirements.
- Manage integrations with trading platforms and support onboarding of new asset classes.

Change Management & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Conduct impact assessments.
- Create training materials.
- Support trading desk onboarding.
- Facilitate daily collaboration across Engineering, QA, DevOps, and Business teams through agile ceremonies.
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?
Must have:
- Strong business analysis capabilities including requirements elicitation, process mapping, user story writing, functional specifications, and UAT coordination.
- 4-6 years of product management or business analysis experience with at least 2 years in financial services or fintech, including hands-on execution experience delivering complex products in regulated environments.
- Technical capabilities including understanding of Java-based applications, REST APIs, microservices, integration patterns, MongoDB, and data modeling.
- SQL and prompt engineering proficiency for querying databases, analyzing data, and creating reports.
- Proven agile delivery experience working directly with engineering teams, using Jira and Confluence, with excellent communication skills translating between business and technical stakeholders.
Nice-to-have:
- Capital Markets domain knowledge in trading workflows or regulatory technology, with strong understanding of regulatory compliance requirements and enthusiasm for applying AI/ML to enhance regulatory workflows.
- Direct regulatory technology experience with pre-trade systems, compliance platforms, rules engines, or trading platforms across OTC derivatives and multiple asset classes.
- Regulatory frameworks knowledge including MiFID II, Dodd-Frank, EMIR, KYC/AML, and credit checks, or background in sell-side trading operations.
- Business Analyst or Product Management certification (CBAP, PMI-PBA) with experience creating technical documentation, Visio diagrams, and ERDs.
