About The Role
The Associate Director Structural Engineer position in Hemel Hempstead is a permanent role offering £69,000 to £79,000 annually, plus pension and healthcare cash plan. Working closely with a Partner, you will oversee structural delivery across residential schemes and healthcare, commercial, and industrial developments, covering both new builds and refurbishments.
Your duties involve:
- Managing project programmes, budgets, and fee agreements
- Conducting peer reviews and mentoring junior engineers
- Acting as the senior technical lead on complex assignments
- Providing design oversight and quality assurance
This full-time position suits a chartered professional with strong managerial skills, ready to shape team performance and client relationships within a Hertfordshire consultancy.
The Role
We are currently seeking an ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR STRUCTURAL ENGINEER to join our client based in HERTFORDSHIRE.
You will work on high volume residential projects along with projects in other sectors to include healthcare, commercial, and industrial encompassing both new build and refurbishment.

You will work closely with a Partner helping to manage the delivery of structural engineering services and help to run the team.
You will do peer reviews and technical mentoring for less senior engineers and technicians.
You will act as the senior technical lead on complex or high value projects and you will provide design oversight and quality assurance.
You will be responsible for delivery of projects within programme, budget, and fee levels.
You will manage fee agreements, scope changes, and cost reporting.
You will coordinate with the other professional teams and manage subconsultant and team resources.
You will contribute to the preparation of fee proposals.
You will work closely with clients building relationships.
The Client
Our client is a successful, growing firm of consulting engineers who are working on various projects in the built environment.
They currently have three UK offices.
The Candidate
You will need to have experience of the following:
- BSc in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering and be Chartered with MICE or MIStructE.
- Around ten years or more post graduate experience gained with a firm of civil / structural consulting engineers.
- Good structural engineering experience on U.K. projects and be up to date with U.K. codes etc.
- Broad based structural engineering design experience.
- Experience of working on volume housing but should also have experience of other types of projects too e.g. healthcare, commercial offices, and industrial projects.
- Experience of managing the commercial aspects of projects i.e. fee monitoring, resource planning, and project delivery against the programme.
- Experience of managing and mentoring a small team.
- Excellent communication skills - both written and spoken.
- Full UK driving licence.

Salary is negotiable from £69,000 to £79,000 per annum plus pension, healthcare cash back plan, some WFH although 3 days in the office is required, life assurance, and a range of other benefits.
