Associate Director – Technology Recruitment
Leeds / Hybrid
£55-70k + uncapped commission + profit based bonus
Are you an experienced technology recruitment leader who wants the opportunity to build something of your own, without starting from scratch?
Exalto Consulting is looking for an ambitious Associate Director to join our senior team and play a key role in the next stage of our growth. This isn't a role to simply inherit and manage an established team.
We want you to build one.
You'll join an established technology recruitment business with experienced Directors, strong delivery capability, existing client relationships and a reputation built around excellent service. From there, we'll give you the support and freedom to develop your own area of the business, build a team around you and create something significant.
The opportunity
Initially, we'd expect you to operate as a player-coach, combining business development and strategic client relationships with hiring, coaching and developing people.
- You'll take responsibility for developing a growth plan, winning and growing clients and gradually building a high-performing recruitment team underneath you.
- As the team grows, we'd expect your role to evolve away from individual billing and increasingly towards leadership, strategic relationships and business growth.
- You'll also work closely with the Directors on the wider direction of Exalto, contribute at client events and roundtables, build your own profile in the technology community and help us explore how AI and emerging technology can improve the way recruitment is delivered.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What we're looking for
You'll already have a strong track record within technology or IT recruitment, but we're particularly interested in what you've built around you.
Ideally, you'll be able to demonstrate:
- Experience building or significantly growing a recruitment team
- A strong personal track record in business development
- Experience hiring, leading, coaching and developing recruiters
- An established network of technology clients and senior relationships
- Commercial credibility with CIOs, CTOs and other senior stakeholders
- The ability to create accountability and high performance without simply managing people through KPIs
- Strong communication, presentation and relationship-building skills
- An interest in AI, technology and the future of recruitment
We're looking for someone ambitious, commercial and entrepreneurial, but also someone who genuinely enjoys helping other people succeed.

Being a great recruiter doesn't automatically make someone a great leader, and we're looking for somebody who understands the difference. You'll know when to coach, when to challenge, when to support and when to get out of the way.
Why Exalto?
Our ambition isn't to become another high-volume recruitment agency. We're building a business that develops deeper relationships with technology organisations, helping them find great people, develop great leaders and build better teams.
We've already built strong foundations, established client relationships and an experienced team. Now we're looking for someone who can help us scale the business further.
For the right person, this is also about much more than becoming an Associate Director.
We want someone with the ambition and capability to progress into a future Director, Sales Director, MD or CEO-level position as the business grows.
You'll have support, existing relationships and infrastructure around you. But importantly, you'll also have the space to build.
So if you're at the stage of your recruitment career where you're thinking less about:
"What's my next recruitment job?" and more about:
"What could I build over the next five years?"
We'd love to talk.
“It took my CV and asked me questions relevant to understanding what kind of jobs to suggest for me. Suggestions were almost perfect. Jobs were exactly what I’ve been looking for.”
