Location: Manchester City Centre

The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Associate Director Town Planner to join a growing and highly regarded planning consultancy in Manchester City Centre.

The business works across a strong portfolio of residential-led development, regeneration, strategic land and mixed-use projects, providing commercially focused planning advice to developers, landowners, investors and housing providers.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious Associate Director looking to take a senior position within a close-knit consultancy, with the opportunity to play a key role in the continued growth of the Manchester team.

The Role

As an Associate Director, you will take a senior role in managing projects, advising clients and developing new business opportunities.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading planning projects from initial appraisal and strategy through to submission and delivery.
  • Providing commercially focused planning advice to developers, landowners and investors.
  • Managing a portfolio of residential, regeneration and mixed-use projects.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, local authorities and wider consultant teams.
  • Leading pre-application discussions, planning applications, appeals and negotiations.
  • Coordinating multidisciplinary consultant teams and managing project programmes.
  • Identifying planning opportunities, risks and solutions across development sites.
  • Supporting and mentoring junior and senior members of the planning team.
  • Contributing to business development, winning new instructions and strengthening existing client relationships.
  • Representing the business at meetings, industry events and with key stakeholders.

About You

The successful candidate will be an experienced planning professional with strong consultancy experience and a proven track record of delivering complex development projects.

You will ideally have:

  • MRTPI qualification.
  • Significant experience within a planning consultancy environment.
  • Strong experience across residential development, strategic land and/or regeneration.
  • Excellent knowledge of the UK planning system and planning policy.
  • Strong client management and communication skills.
  • Experience managing projects and mentoring more junior planners.
  • A commercial mindset and the confidence to identify and develop new business opportunities.
  • The ambition to progress within a growing consultancy and play a key role in its continued expansion.
