Associate Director

As Associate Director you will support our Corporate and Leverage Finance customers across the Midlands. You will also form part of new business deal teams as we look to win new customers in both segments.

We are responsible for supporting businesses across Midlands so that they grow and prosper to strengthen the local economy. We have a history of punching above our weight in local market and have ambitious growth plans as a modern mutual business banking function.

You will be able to display strong relationship management skills and have experience of delivering a fantastic customer experience. In addition, you should be able to demonstrate strong risk management and credit assessment capabilities.

As a team we have a reputation for developing talent and as the team grows there will be opportunities for high performers to move to other roles.

At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.

For this role, you will be part of our growing Business Banking team, meeting with and supporting customers across your assigned region. You'll be covering the Midlands region so will need to be based locally as you will be expected to travel regularly across this region. Additionally, there will be a need to regularly connect with colleagues for collaboration events in one of our locations. These are currently expected to take place monthly in Birmingham, however the location may vary. If your application is successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this works. You can also find out more about our approach to hybrid working here.

Virgin Money is now part of Nationwide

Nationwide acquired Virgin Money in October 2024. Virgin Money continues to serve customers on the high street, and there will be a phased and considered integration over the coming years.

You'll be employed by Nationwide from day one, delivering real impact and benefitting from a highly competitive range of benefits. We're a workplace where you're rewarded, recognised, supported and celebrated.

If we receive a high volume of relevant applications, we may close the advert earlier than the advertised date, so please apply as soon as you can.

What you’ll be doing

Our Associate Director will be a key member of the Midlands Strategic Finance team, with a primary focus on supporting our Leverage Finance and Corporate customers and prospects. You’ll assist with relationship management of customers including risk management of portfolio and assessing new lending requests for portfolio customers. In addition, you will help Directors with their business development activities, the strengthening of the brand in the local and regional marketplace, and the development and expansion of the team’s external network.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
