Job Description
What is the opportunity?
You will be the primary point of contact for credit risk matters arising from transacting with fund counterparties managed by the European-based asset managers under your coverage.
You will also be the team leader for expanding the use of AI in our credit process around managing credit exposure to funds. This includes analyzing existing workflow and processes and working with the Toronto GRM team to redesign and implement system and process changes to improve efficiency in our credit process.
This is a full-time permanent role and will require 4 days in our London office.
What will you do?
- Undertake credit and due diligence work for a range of lending and trading relationships. The responsibilities will be split between the credit adjudication of loan facilities for alternative funds/private equity vehicles, and the adjudication of derivatives and securities lending facilities for all types of funds. You will be a key point of contact on credit risk issues relating to your allocated portfolio of clients.
- Prepare and lead due diligence calls/meetings with fund managers.
- Review and adjudicate manager/counterparty ratings, new transaction requests, as well as annual reviews under your delegated authority. For some transactions, you will have the responsibility to establish new ratings.
- Review transaction requests, including legal documentation terms, and deliver constructive challenge to the business when needed to ensure a balanced risk/reward solution is achieved.
- Prepare concise transaction summaries, including sound recommendations, for management approval when required.
- Ensure efficient ongoing monitoring for the credit portfolio in conjunction with the 1st Line of Defence and other GRM stakeholders.
- Lead the team in expanding the use of AI in our credit process for managing credit exposure to funds.
- Includes analyzing existing workflow and processes and working with the Toronto GRM team to redesign and implement system and process changes to improve efficiency in our credit process.
- Also includes working with stakeholders across the 1st Line of Defence business partners and GRM business management in Toronto towards this objective, recommending changes that enhance efficiency and reduce risk.

What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
- The mandate calls for an effective, action-oriented professional officer with strong credit management skills, great attention to detail, and the ability to deal with a large and diverse workload and to shift priorities when needed.
- Excellent written communication skills are crucial as well as good verbal communication skills. Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills are also needed.
- You will be expected to operate largely independently, although you will also have to liaise with RBC Group staff in various departments (including ICCM, CB, Trading Desks, TDG, Law Group).
- You are willing to travel on behalf of the bank to meet asset managers/clients.
- Demonstrated experience in stakeholder management, systems implementation, integration, and data management.
- Demonstrated background in business transformation, operating model change, process optimization, and/or continuous improvement initiatives.
Nice-to-have
- Solid understanding of the financial markets and of the asset management sector.
- Good knowledge of balance sheet ratios and of trading and lending products.
- Knowledge of counterparty credit risk or trading documentation or lending documentation.
- The ability to speak French and/or German.
