Associate Director – Technical Services
Location: Liverpool
Salary: Up to £65,000 + Benefits
Role: Permanent | Full Time
Looking for a role where your influence extends beyond your own projects?
As an Associate Director, you've built your career delivering complex technical work, developing client relationships and supporting the growth of your team. But perhaps you're now looking for an opportunity where you can have a greater impact on the wider business.
Our client is a growing organisation delivering specialist environmental, surveying, planning and infrastructure services. As they continue to expand, they're looking for an experienced technical leader to join the business and help shape the future of their multidisciplinary technical function.
This is a newly created leadership role where you'll combine your technical expertise with people leadership, commercial awareness and strategic thinking to support the continued growth of the business.
The Opportunity
Working alongside the senior leadership team, you'll provide leadership across a multidisciplinary department, supporting teams within planning, surveying, environmental monitoring and GIS.
- Work closely with managers to ensure projects are delivered successfully, teams are effectively resourced and clients continue to receive an exceptional service.
- Rather than focusing solely on your own technical discipline, help bring together multiple specialist teams, encouraging collaboration and sharing best practice across the business.
- Develop people by coaching managers, mentoring technical professionals and helping identify future leaders, creating a culture where people are supported to grow and perform at their best.
- Play an important role in the commercial success of the business, strengthening relationships with existing clients, supporting tender submissions, identifying new opportunities and contributing to the strategic direction of the technical function.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
