Purpose
Contributes to the overall success of the Fixed Income Origination franchise in Europe and – more broadly – to the SSA and Government Finance franchise of Scotiabank ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
This role falls into scope under the Certification Regime and requires the individual to be internally ‘Certified’ as a significant harm function.
Accountabilities
- Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
- Establish and develop a capital-light Private Placement desk leveraging Scotiabank’s franchise.
- The objective of the establishment of the position is to generate standalone debt placements (typically under EMTN documentation) pursuing two “twin goals”:
- Generate “arbitrage” funding transactions for SSA issuers (even with low / nil PnL), which will ultimately be rewarded by issuers giving Scotiabank fee-paying benchmark bookrunner mandates
- Generate transactions for GovFi / Corporate and FIG issuers where Scotiabank will pursue a PnL objective
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Code of Conduct.
- Contributes to a high performance environment and fosters an inclusive work environment; supporting the vision/values/business strategy for the team.

Dimensions
- Position serves issuers within the SSA/GovFin community, with the potential to serve European Corporate and FIG issuers as well as the opportunity arises
- Operates within the European Fixed Income Origination Budget
- Generates revenues both on a standalone transaction basis and in the form of extra fee-paying Benchmark bookrunner mandates awarded return for private placement activity
Education / Experience
- Private Placement origination experience is essential
- Experience in capital markets origination business
- Proficiency in derivatives pricing and modelling
- FCA Certified
