An exciting opportunity to further develop our ecological presence in our Ecology team. We are looking for a motivated and experienced Associate Ecologist Team Lead to join our team, working closely with our other disciplines including our Landscape & Arboricultural teams.

The Role

The successful candidate will lead our Birmingham Ecology team, working collaboratively with colleagues across the wider Northern Ecology region to deliver operational excellence, support business growth, and develop our people. This role combines leadership, commercial awareness and technical expertise, providing an exciting opportunity to shape the future of our Ecology business while progressing your own career within an award-winning consultancy.

  • Leading and supporting the Birmingham Ecology team in delivering annual business and operational targets
  • Working closely with the Regional Ecology Director (North) to deliver the Ecology strategy
  • Reviewing and analysing operational performance, including pipeline management, sales opportunities and business development activity
  • Supporting recruitment, workforce planning and subcontractor management alongside the Regional Ecology Director and HR team
  • Collaborating with the resource coordination team to ensure efficient workload management across the region
  • Working with Technical Leads to identify skills gaps, development opportunities and regional technical requirements
  • Preparing monthly operational reporting for the Birmingham Ecology team
  • Collaborating with operational leads across the business to support project delivery and problem solving
  • Supporting regional sales activity and business development initiatives
  • Acting as Project Manager and Project Director on key projects
  • Mentoring and supporting project managers and junior ecologists across the Ecology team

You should be a confident and proactive leader with strong commercial awareness, excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive working relationships across teams, clients and stakeholders. We're looking for someone who enjoys developing people, supporting business growth and finding practical solutions to operational challenges, while maintaining the high-quality technical standards our clients expect.

Essential

What We're Looking For

  • A degree (or higher) in Ecology, Environmental Science, Biological Sciences or a related discipline
  • Full membership of CIEEM, ideally Chartered or working towards Chartership
  • Proven leadership and people management experience within ecology, planning or environmental consultancy
  • Strong understanding of UK ecological legislation, planning policy and industry best practice
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Experience reviewing operational data and identifying opportunities for improvement
  • Strong commercial awareness, with experience supporting business development and sales activity
  • Excellent report writing, review and quality assurance skills
  • Experience mentoring, coaching and developing colleagues
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities

  • A full UK driving licence

Desirable

  • Chartered Ecologist status
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams or regional operations
  • Experience as a Project Director on large or complex projects
  • Experience developing and delivering business strategy
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary consultancy environment

Salary: £55,960 - £60,000

Pay points reflect our 2026 salary banding. All pay points are reviewed annually. We're passionate about pay transparency - Tyler Grange Pay Transparency.
