As the demand to deliver exceptional Mechanical Service projects to our clients continues to grow, an opportunity has arisen for an Associate - Mechanical Services - Manchester.

About You

As an Associate – Mechanical Services, you will be required to have experience in one or multiple sectors that BakerHicks operates in. You will ideally be a Chartered Engineer and will have the ability to demonstrate managing complex projects and multiple priorities whilst building, developing and managing a motivated and enthusiastic team.

Client care and repeat business is crucial to BakerHicks success, so you’ll need to be able to collaborate, and own key relationships with our clients, both internally and externally.

Key Purpose

  • Management of the Mechanical Services team in the location office, including supporting recruitment, resourcing, professional development, and engagement to deliver high quality output to all projects
  • Management of Mechanical Services involvement in a number of projects, including time, cost, quality assurance, health and safety, resource management, client relationship management and project delivery
  • Monitor, support and champion quality and compliance controls within local teams and projects
  • Contribute to the development and growth of the national Mechanical Services team, actively participating in the Mechanical Services Management Team Meetings

Responsibilities

  • Time, cost, quality and resource and delivery management including communication with the department and management to ensure that resource, project and customer requirements are clearly understood and met.
  • Lead preparation of enquiry plans, tender reviews, fee estimate sheets, scopes of work and change controls.
  • Monitoring of project fee spend and delivery of commercial objectives including invoicing and CVR management.
  • Manage Cost of Further Works and resource plans.
  • Provide feedback on the performance of the department from a technical and operational perspective.
  • Hold technical discipline design reviews and provide a peer group audit function of the designs of other team members.
  • Recruit, develop, retain and engage members of Mechanical Services team, supporting BakerHicks’ commitments to diversity and staff development
  • Act as an interface to project clients on key projects ensuring a responsive customer focused service
  • Implement strategies as directed by the Discipline Director and/or the Senior Management Team to meet business objectives

Accountabilities

  • Create a team environment which enables continual development, feedback and professional growth
  • Ensure team compliance with company quality management and best practice
  • Management of staff in the production of calculations, design deliverables (including production of drawings, specifications and reports), site surveys, construction stage duties, client liaison, liaison with members of design/construction teams, project management, costing and any other relevant duty required to comply with the project brief.

Knowledge, Experience and Qualifications

Essential

  • Chartered Member of Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE)
  • Demonstrable track record of delivering multi-disciplinary projects to a high standard in at least one sector that BakerHicks operates in.
  • Considerable experience in managing large and varied teams from Apprentices and Graduates to Principal level.
  • Extensive involvement in contributing to and/or leading bids, proposals and tender specifications
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to eloquently present complex ideas.
  • Strong ability to develop enduring relationships with both internal and external stakeholders that deliver long term benefits.
  • Outstanding design, technical detailing and specification writing experience.
  • Essential technical experience: Expert design of Mechanical Building Services systems in the sectors that BakerHicks work in, including HVAC and Public Health.
  • Experience in using the following specialist software:
    • Navisworks
    • NBS Create / Chorus

Desirable

  • Extensive experience of delivering multi-disciplinary projects in several sectors that BakerHicks operates in.
  • Experience in managing multi-disciplinary teams to deliver complex projects.
  • Ability to develop, deploy and implement strategic vision.
  • Meaningful contribution to work winning activities including running bids and tenders, client relationship management and business development
  • Experience in using the following specialist software:
    • IES Thermal Modelling
    • AutoCAD
    • Revit
