We're looking for an Associate Engineer to join our Design team based in Birmingham. In this exciting and rewarding role, you will lead the delivery of the most complex construction engineering services, while supporting and developing others to deliver high-quality, safe, and buildable engineering solutions.

Kier Design is a top-25 engineering consultancy delivering construction-focused, innovative, and buildable solutions across the UK. With access to Kier's £11bn+ project pipeline, we work across major infrastructure, construction, and public sector schemes.

Location: Birmingham
Hours: 40 hours per week - some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us

What will you be responsible for?

As an Associate Engineer, you'll take a senior role within the Construction Engineering team, leading the delivery of complex engineering services while supporting others to deliver safe and buildable outcomes. Your day-to-day will include:

  • Leading the design and delivery of complex temporary works, above and below ground in all materials, integrated with permanent works where required
  • Acting as Project Lead, managing technical scope, programme, budget, and client relationships across bids and live projects
  • Providing technical assurance through design reviews, third-party assessments, and resolution of engineering issues and incidents
  • Supporting bid and tender activity through outline designs, feasibility studies, value engineering, and buildability solutions
  • Leading, mentoring, and developing engineers, sharing best practice, and contributing to technical standards and training

What are we looking for?

This role of Associate Engineer is great if you:

  • Are a Chartered Engineer or member of a relevant professional institution (e.g., CEng MICE), with significant post-qualification experience
  • Have a strong background in temporary works design and checking across a range of construction environments
  • Can demonstrate extensive experience leading complex projects and multidisciplinary teams within a consultancy or contractor-led environment
  • Are commercially aware, with experience supporting bids, fees, programme, and budget management
