The Role
As an Associate Engineer - Technical Author, you’ll be a member of a team of Technical Authors, provisioning of high-quality publications to support those installing, modifying, operating, maintaining, repairing and removing equipment.
Day-to-day, you’ll provide internal and external customers with support documentation in accordance with Technical Publications procedures, Military Aviation Authority (MAA) publications MAM-P, MAM-D and S1000D/ATA iSpec 2200, which will enable them to safely and efficiently install, test, operate, maintain, repair and remove equipment for installations and modifications.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Military Aircraft: Making sure that the work produced meets customers’ specifications, Airworthiness requirements and publications standards of the MAA, MAM-P / MAM-D & Defence Guide for Technical Documentation
- Civil Aircraft: Making sure that the work produced meets customers’ specifications, Airworthiness requirements and publications standards of the CAA, S1000D & ATA iSpec 2200
- Planning and prioritising own work, with guidance, to meet customers’ requirements
- Make sure that the work meets customers’ specifications, airworthiness requirements and publications standards
- Assessing compliance with MAA MAM-P & MAM-D and associated Regulatory Articles
- Assessing compliance with Civil Aviation standards (S1000D or ATA iSpec 2200)
Essential experience of the Associate Engineer - Technical Author:
- Qualified aircraft engineer or mechanical engineer or an equivalent level of know-how gained through experience
- A general knowledge of aircraft equipment, systems and documentation
- Competence in the use of Microsoft Word and Adobe FrameMaker to an advanced level
- Competence in the use of S1000D authoring tools and CSDB operations
- Competence in the use of a graphics package such as CorelDraw, for the manipulation of bitmap and vector graphics

Essential qualifications for the Associate Engineer - Technical Author:
- C&G or ONC/HNC in an appropriate technical subject or be able to demonstrate an equivalent level of knowledge gained from an aircraft engineering environment
- City and Guilds or equivalent in Technical Authoring

This role is 37 hours per week based at our Boscombe Down site with a minimum average site attendance of three days per week.
Boscombe Down
MOD Boscombe Down is a unique operational site featuring the longest military runway in the UK. Primarily focusing on providing testing, evaluation and support services for aviation and aerospace systems. Renowned for its extensive flight-testing capabilities the site plays a vital role in the UK’s aviation defence contributing to the development, testing and airworthiness of military aircraft enhancing operational readiness and effectiveness.
Please note that all applicants for this role must be eligible for SC clearance, as a minimum.
