To provide physical activity advice, individual exercise assessment, and prescription to appropriate cardiovascular patients in the clinical setting.

To work with the cardiovascular rehabilitation team to develop and deliver lifestyle behaviour change programmes & exercise services.

To support and contribute to safe and effective service delivery, e.g., equipment checks, cleaning, appointment reminders, etc.

Cardiovascular Rehabilitation

Within a multi-disciplinary team, assist in the coordination, delivery, and development of a Comprehensive Cardiovascular Rehabilitation Programme, To Include:

  • Prepare and be responsible for the completion of patient functional capacity tests to establish physical capabilities and develop tailored programmes of exercise suitable to the patient’s needs and limitations.
  • Assist in clinical assessments and risk stratification.
  • Have the ability to travel across and deliver cardiovascular rehabilitation across South Cumbria.
  • Assist with the delivery of educational talks, such as exercise, goal setting, and nutrition.
  • Be responsible for the supervision and demonstration of exercise-based cardiovascular rehabilitation sessions.
  • Ensure adequate levels of supervision of all rehabilitation sessions in line with service policies and procedures and according to the patient’s care plan.
  • Ensure that all patients progress through the relevant stages of the programme at the correct pace.

We operate from three main hospitals—Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units, and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life-threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case, and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Our Community Service for adults is provided in people's homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health, and manage their conditions through high-quality care, advice, and support.
