Birmingham Children’s Trust exists to make a positive difference for children, young people and families across the city. Our vision is simple and ambitious: “Working together to make Birmingham the greatest city to grow up in.”
This is an excellent opportunity to develop your finance career in a supportive and purpose-driven organisation. As an Associate Finance Business Partner, you will play an important role in helping services make the best use of public resources to support children, young people and families across Birmingham. You will gain exposure to a wide range of financial activities, build strong relationships with managers and service colleagues, and develop the skills and experience needed to progress within the finance profession.
If you are a qualified AAT member, working towards a CCAB qualification or a graduate with an accountancy degree seeking to begin your career in the finance profession, this opportunity may be of interest to you.
In this role, you will work closely with Finance Managers, Finance Business Partners, budget holders and service colleagues to provide financial advice, insight and support. You will help provide clear, timely and practical financial information, while building positive relationships across the organisation.
We are looking for someone with strong numeracy and analytical skills, good attention to detail and the ability to communicate financial information clearly. You will be confident using Excel and finance systems, able to manage competing priorities and committed to providing a professional, responsive and customer-focused finance service.
We have been rated as ‘Good’ by Ofsted, following a 2023 inspection. This is a fantastic achievement for Birmingham Children's Trust, with many positive highlights focusing on areas including the quality of staff leadership, partnership working, safeguarding and corporate parenting.
This is a hybrid role based in Birmingham so you must have the correct right-to-work documents to work in the UK. Sadly, we do not support those who require sponsorship.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
