Financial Foundations is a growing finance consultancy specialising in construction, property and development businesses.

I'm now looking for an experienced finance professional to join me as the first Associate Consultant as I begin to grow the business.

Initially, there is a potential assignment of around 3 days per week with an established construction business in Suffolk. Longer term, the ambition is to build a small team of experienced finance professionals working across a portfolio of construction and property businesses.

This isn't traditional accountancy practice work.

We work directly within businesses, alongside owners, directors and their existing finance teams, helping them build stronger finance functions and make better use of their financial information.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

The work can include:

  • Management accounts and financial reporting
  • Cashflow forecasting and working-capital management
  • WIP, contract and project reporting
  • Supporting and overseeing bookkeeping/transactional finance
  • Balance-sheet control and reconciliations
  • Improving financial processes and controls
  • Working directly with owners and management teams

Previous construction, property or development finance experience is essential.

I'm looking for someone who is experienced, commercially minded and comfortable walking into a business where everything isn't necessarily perfect, understanding what's going on and taking ownership of making it better.

You might currently be a Finance Manager, Financial Controller or Management Accountant looking for more flexibility, or already working independently but would prefer to spend more of your time delivering good work rather than finding clients.

Qualified, part-qualified and strong QBE candidates will all be considered. Practical experience and the ability to make a difference within a business matter more to me than the letters after your name.

This would initially be on a self-employed consultancy basis, predominantly in the Suffolk / East Anglia area, with the opportunity for the relationship to grow as Financial Foundations develops.

If this sounds like it might suit you, I'd much rather start with an informal conversation than a polished CV.
