Pixel Systems is a small, remote software agency that builds the tools teams actually use. We do not build flashy consumer apps or marketing sites. Instead, we focus on the practical side of development: admin panels, CRM integrations, and the database migrations that people usually try to avoid. Our clients come to us when they need to replace a sprawling spreadsheet with a real database or get their different software tools to finally talk to one another.

The Role
We are bringing on a new developer to help us build a suite of internal management tools for a major Manchester-based infrastructure consultancy. This is a full-time, permanent position designed for someone early in their career who wants to focus on building practical software that solves day-to-day business problems. As a remote member of our team, you will help us turn complex requirements into clean, functional interfaces that people use to get their work done.
In this role, your main task will be building and improving the interfaces our infrastructure consultancy client uses to manage their projects. This is a fully remote position where you will spend your time creating React components, connecting them to backend APIs, and ensuring that data flows correctly from user input into the database. You might be asked to clean up a legacy dashboard, build a new reporting screen from scratch, or ensure that a complex form correctly validates user data before submission.

Because we are a small team, you will see the full lifecycle of a feature. You will see how a requirement from the client becomes a technical task, how that task is coded, and how it eventually gets demonstrated in our weekly meetings. You will be moving data between systems and making sure the frontend remains responsive and clear for the end user.
What You Bring
We are looking for someone who understands the basics of web development and is eager to apply those skills to professional projects. We value clarity and reliability over cleverness. To succeed in this role, you should have the following:
- A basic understanding of JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
- The ability to write code that is readable and organized so that others can work on it later.
- A curious mindset and a willingness to ask questions when you get stuck.
- Basic familiarity with how browsers interact with servers and APIs.
- Strong communication skills, specifically the ability to explain your progress and challenges in writing.
- An interest in building internal business tools rather than consumer-facing social media or marketing apps.
- A disciplined approach to remote work, ensuring you stay on task and meet your commitments.
Helpful Background
While this is an entry-level role, there are a few tools and technologies we use every day. Familiarity with these will help you get started, even if it is just from personal projects or your studies:
- Experience building basic applications with React.
- Familiarity with Node.js and how it functions on the backend.
- Basic knowledge of SQL and how to interact with a database like Postgres.
- Experience using GitHub for version control and collaborating on code.
- A basic understanding of RESTful APIs and JSON data structures.
- Any experience you have with basic UI design or layout tools.
- A general interest in how infrastructure or operations teams manage large projects.
