Associate General Counsel – International
Working under the supervision of the Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel, the Associate General Counsel – International provides legal, compliance, and risk management guidance and support for Clearwater's international operations, including commercial contract negotiation, regulatory compliance and data privacy for non-U.S. clients and prospects. This role assists the Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel in supporting Clearwater's international growth strategy, serving as a legal point of contact for business units and regional leadership operating outside the U.S.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Provides legal, compliance, and risk management guidance for the full range of legal issues facing Clearwater's international business, including contract negotiation, corporate governance, regulatory compliance, intellectual property, and privacy across jurisdictions
- Reviews legal data and advises the organization on appropriate legal action across international markets
- Coordinates litigation and other legal matters handled by outside counsel in non-U.S. jurisdictions
- Demonstrates experience in cross-border commercial matters, including regulatory and data privacy regimes (e.g., DORA and GDPR), and contract management across multiple legal systems
- Uses professional judgment and company objectives to resolve complex legal issues in creative and effective ways
- Works on complex issues where analysis requires in-depth evaluation of jurisdiction-specific variables and commercial acumen
- Networks with outside counsel, and other key contacts across international markets
- Performs legal research and advises the Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel on international legal matters
- Develops and negotiates complex licenses and commercial agreements for international technology, software, and services transactions
- Works directly with the Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel to support the growth and governance of Clearwater's international legal footprint
- Monitors international legal and regulatory changes and provides regular updates and training to the business
- Assists in maintaining contractual compliance, corporate governance, and regulatory compliance across international entities
- Partners with internal business constituents to ensure customer success and legal protection of Clearwater across global markets
- Provides project support to the Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel on international special projects

Required Qualifications

- LLB, JD or equivalent with excellent academic credentials from an accredited program, with license to practice in at least one jurisdiction (U.S. state or international equivalent)
- Minimum 3 years post-qualification legal experience, ideally including international/cross-border transactional law
- Experience navigating multi-jurisdictional regulatory environments (e.g., EU, UK, APAC)
- Ability to work independently and drive tasks to completion with creative solutions while managing multiple projects in a deadline-driven, global environment
- Self-starter with an appreciation for a dynamic, cross-cultural work environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work across time zones and cultures
- Impeccable ethics and professional business demeanor
- Familiarity with, or willingness to learn, technical concepts in web applications
- Fluency in French required
Preferred Qualifications
- International business transactional or regulatory compliance experience
