Position Summary

The Associate General Counsel will work as an integral part of our global Office of the General Counsel (OGC), working closely with partners and business service leads to assist the Firm in the management of risk, including handling corporate structural and regulatory compliance work.

Our General Counsel Team

The OGC acts as the Firm’s in-house legal counsel. Its work focuses on the Firm’s global risk management, corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and new business intake.

Duties and Accountabilities

  • Advising the Firm on its global structure and corporate governance, including corporate and partnership secretarial issues and the opening, closing and restructuring of offices.
  • Advising the Firm on all aspects of global regulatory compliance, responding to new regulations and implementing policies and procedures.
  • Identifying and mitigating potential legal and business risks within contracts.
  • Supporting the Firm in assessing current and future reporting obligations given its global structure (for example in relation to corporate sustainability laws and regulations).
  • Perform other duties necessary to support the Firm's strategic goals.

  • Ability to leverage creative thinking and diverse skills and knowledge to solve challenges.
  • Shows high levels of emotional intelligence and understands what matters to others.
  • Experience of developing and delivering training on compliance and risk management issues.
  • Excellent drafting and document management skills.
  • Project management skills to successfully complete multiple projects in a matrixed environment.
  • Experience in a GC/risk team of a major international law firm helpful.
  • Demonstrable expertise in standard business software applications such as Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.

Qualifications

  • Strong academic qualifications.
  • A qualified transactional lawyer with a practicing certificate admitted in England & Wales and/or New York state, with at least 3-5 years PQE experience at a major national or international firm.

Location and Reporting

This role is based in our London office, reporting to Anna Lilley, Partner and Deputy General Counsel (Head of Regulatory and Corporate Governance). Our standard office hours are 09:30 – 18:00.
