Team Overview
Ashurst Perkins Coie's market-leading Structured Finance and Derivatives practices operate at the intersection of law, structuring and market innovation. The work spans derivatives across credit, equity, fund-linked, commodities and digital assets; securitisation and asset repackaging; collateralised financing and structured treasury operations; risk transfer; and other capital-driven products, alongside high-value advisory work. The breadth is real: you will move across products and formats, helping clients turn complex ideas into executable transactions.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The opportunity
From day one, you will take hands-on responsibility for complex transactions, drafting, negotiating and closing deals from term sheet through post-closing. You will work on novel structures and help shape market-first documentation—not simply assist—while working directly with clients and colleagues across the firm and around the world. When the work is advisory, you will analyse challenging issues, draw on the Firm's expertise and develop clear, commercially useful advice. The pace is high, the matters are varied and every transaction is an opportunity to deepen your expertise and help move the market forward.
Key Responsibilities
- Drafting and negotiating derivatives documentation (including ISDA Master Agreements, CSAs, confirmations and related schedules).
- Advising on securitisation, repackaging and structured note programmes and structured debt capital market transactions.
- Supporting collateralised financing and repo transactions; conducting legal and regulatory analysis on novel product structures.
- Preparing client-facing memoranda and market briefings; and managing transaction workstreams and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders.
