Associate - Insolvency

Department: Dispute Resolution and Litigation

Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time

Location: Manchester

Description

We are looking to recruit an Associate with transactional, advisory and contentious restructuring and insolvency experience who would join our Manchester team and work with the cross-office Insolvency team, supporting both non-contentious restructuring and insolvency litigation work.

We encourage our lawyers to think beyond the law and into the commercial by acquiring excellent technical expertise, client management and profile-raising skills. We know that the best solutions are found when you're collaborating which is why you will be well supported at partner level and by other fee-earners not just in your immediate team but throughout the whole department

The Role

  • Advising office holders, directors, lenders and other stakeholders on restructuring and insolvency issues;
  • Acting for office holders and buyers on distressed business and asset sales;
  • Undertaking insolvency litigation including breach of duty, transactions at undervalue and other claims;
  • Handling own caseload (subject to supervision);
  • Assisting partners and senior lawyers with more substantial matters including distressed transactions and insolvency litigation;
  • Building and maintaining effective client relationships, particularly with referrers of work such as national accountancy and insolvency practitioners;
  • Participating in marketing initiatives, including client training days / seminars / contributions to our quarterly insolvency newsletter and other BD activities;
  • Ensuring files are managed in compliance with Lexcel procedures;
  • Participating in firm-wide and departmental training sessions;
  • Meeting targets as agreed. Managing files, time and billing efficiently and in a cost-effective manner;

The Candidate

The firm has a Career Development Framework which sets out the competencies we expect of those at the Associate grade. In particular for this role we require:

  • Qualified solicitor with at least 4 years' post qualification experience.
  • Contentious and/or non-contentious experience in a broad range of insolvency and restructuring matters.
  • The ability to take on responsibility and manage files, independently where appropriate;
  • Strong client focus and a commitment to service delivery;
  • Drive and enthusiasm; and
  • Flexibility and a can-do attitude.
