About the Role
In this role you will support the Wealth & Investment team in managing client portfolios and delivering exceptional client service. You will develop advanced investment knowledge, technical skills, and commercial acumen and play an active role in business development, building networks, and contributing to the firm’s growth.
We’re looking for an ambitious, dynamic and team-oriented Associate Investment Manager to join our growing Rathbones team. This role will support an established client book while helping to expand a significant and growing IFA portfolio.
You’ll be a confident communicator with real gravitas and be able to build strong relationships. With a naturally consultative, sales-oriented approach, you’ll spot opportunities, nurture connections and support the growth of the IFA channel. An interest in this market is key, along with the drive to build and scale your own client base over time.

- Assists in managing client portfolios and lifecycle processes under supervision.
- Ensures suitability through real-time client engagement. Understands investment objectives to seek good client outcomes.
- Proactively engages with clients and intermediaries, resolving issues and enhancing client experience.
- Collaborates with Financial Planners, Portfolio Managers and other Rathbones services to deliver holistic outcomes.
Investment skills and technical development
- Conducts investment research and contributes to team discussions.
- Assists with asset allocation, management of portfolios and ensuring they are managed to mandate.
- Progresses awareness and knowledge of Financial Planning, helping to identify potential areas for referral.
- Improves team technological capability, being prepared to develop and share expertise.
Business Development & Growth
- Supports development of high-quality client proposals and presentations.
- Participates in business development training and internal pitch delivery sessions.
- Actively builds internal and external networks to support referrals and commercial opportunities.
- Begins to identify and pursue new business opportunities aligned with Rathbones strategic goals.

About you

- CISI Level 4 IAD with both Securities and Financial Planning and Advice papers - Essential
- Experience in financial services, investment, or client-facing roles.
- Exposure to portfolio management, suitability reviews, and client reporting.
- Familiarity with business development activities and relationship management.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Clear understanding and articulation of Rathbones proposition, investment process and Research capabilities.
- Ability to explain complex concepts in simple terms.
- Awareness of regulatory environment and compliance standards.
- Client-centric and commercially aware.
- Proactive, collaborative, and accountable.
- Demonstrates integrity, attention to detail, and professionalism.
- Seeks feedback and strives for continuous improvement.
