What’s new with Aptar

Nanopharm is a prominent player in the Inhalation industry, with our laboratory service provision in Wales, United Kingdom. We specialise in the development and testing of inhalable and nasal pharmaceutical products, collaborating closely with pharmaceutical companies to ensure product safety, efficacy, and regulatory compliance.

We have an exciting position open at Nanopharm, which is an Aptar Pharma Company: Associate Manager, Pharmaceutical Development reporting into Manager, Pharmaceutical Development. These positions will be based in Cwmbran and will involve conducting pharmaceutical product analysis for our customers to a high degree of precision and efficiency.

Role Overview

  • To lead and manage a team of Senior Scientists and Pharmaceutical Analysts.
  • To provide scientific and technical leadership to project teams and clients.
  • Recognised point of contact within Nanopharm for problem solving in field of technical expertise.

Role Overview

General

  • To inspire all departmental team members by personal example and good work ethic, ensuring alignment to the work being conducted to the values, vision and core strategy.
  • Responsible for the management and leadership of Senior Scientists and Pharmaceutical Analysts, which includes.
  • Accountable for organising and planning project activities with your group utilising the most effective use of equipment, resources and skills dependent upon customer requirements.
  • Ensuring the scientific team working on projects within the group/project team are sufficiently trained and competent to perform the requested tasks.
  • Lead objective setting, performance evaluations and the generation of personal develop plans for your team.
  • Participate in the recruitment process of new team members.
  • Provide support and supervision, as required to team members to ensure experimental tasks are carried out with scientific rigour and in accordance with appropriate SOPs.
  • Support and deputise for the Head of Department as required, representing your team and presenting a broad overview of progress, successes and challenges as requested.
  • Accountable for identifying and training needs for the team and notifying your Head of Department to ensure robust training plans are put in place.
  • Ensuring absences are logged and tracked in the system and diligently approved in a reasonable amount of time.
  • Ensuring absences within the team are managed with care/compassion, but persistent absence is managed and return-to-work plans are in place.
  • Ensuring planned absences are taken by team members responsibly and that significant periods of absence of key personnel affects the planned work/commitments.
  • Creating a work environment that ensures good retention of staff, with low levels of turnover, within areas of your control.
  • Accountable for the on-time completion of annual/periodic appraisals for your direct reports, ensuring they are on-time and completed in-full as detailed in the Aptar schedule.

Science & Research

  • Providing scientific and technical leadership to project teams and clients.
  • Provide training (either externally or internally) in specialist or scientific skills.
  • Recognised point of contact within Nanopharm for problem solving in field of technical expertise.
  • Technical expert in data analysis/manipulation and assessment/interpretation in specialist area.
  • Make comprehensive records of all work and write/review formal reports.
  • Author and review material intended for publication including peer reviewed journals.
  • To act as an ambassador for Nanopharm and wider Aptar in specialist area and actively participate in the scientific/industrial community for specialist area.
  • Build and maintain awareness of external experts, new technologies within specialist area and make recommendations for use within Nanopharm.
  • Perform research and development activities, delivering new technologies, processes or knowledge as agreed.

Continuous Improvement

  • Participate and lead continuous improvement programs throughout Nanopharm and where applicable, share best practice within the wider Aptar Pharma group.
  • To identify inefficiencies and improvements in workflows, processes and systems honestly and promptly.
  • To complete improvement projects on-time, to-track and in-full, where assigned.

Customer Service

  • Identify and deploy efficiency gains in core areas of expertise and group that facilitate project delivery.
  • Attend project team meetings as area expert supporting the team members and the clients fully.
  • Support your Head of Department to ensure excellent client relationships are maintained or enhanced as projects and work progresses, supporting your team members when required.
  • Communicating issues on projects and programs immediately to your Head of Department (ensuring unsanctioned or unapproved work does not continue).
  • Lead by example, treating our customers ethically, with respect and demonstrating exemplar levels of honesty and integrity with the work we do. Ensuring your team members do so always.

Education, Experience & Relevant Skills

Education & Qualification

Preferably a first degree in a science, pharmacy or relevant discipline of grade 2.1 or above.

Experience

  • Experience in Inhalation/respiratory product development or research.
  • Proven track record on successfully managing a team in a fast pace results orientated environment.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and expertise within specialist field.
  • Proven flexibility in adjusting to a rapidly evolving workload and remaining calm under pressure.

Skills

  • Awareness of regulatory requirements e.g. Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH), Good Laboratory Practice (GLP).
  • Excellent influencing skills to ensure full team alignment.
  • Excellent communication skills to articulate complex scientific concepts and data sets.
  • Organised with data driven decision making skills.
  • Ability to communicate and work with personnel of all levels, internally and externally.
  • Detail orientated person and highly organised.
  • To demonstrate strong leadership skills and leading by example at all times.
  • Displays adherence to and promotion of the company values at all times.
