Role Purpose
We are seeking an experienced and client-focused Associate Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the delivery of mechanical building services projects across a diverse portfolio of sectors. This is a senior position for an ambitious engineer who combines strong technical expertise with leadership, project management, and business development capabilities.
The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing project delivery, managing client relationships, mentoring engineering teams, and contributing to the continued growth and success of the business.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and delivery of mechanical building services projects from inception through to completion.
- Manage multiple projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients, consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders.
- Provide technical leadership and oversight for mechanical engineering designs and specifications.
- Review and approve engineering calculations, reports, drawings, and technical documentation.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary design teams, including electrical, structural, architectural, and sustainability consultants.
- Undertake resource planning and support the management of project teams.
- Mentor, develop, and support junior and intermediate engineers.
- Attend client, design, and site meetings throughout project lifecycles.
- Support bid submissions, fee proposals, and business development activities.
- Ensure designs comply with current legislation, industry standards, and best practice guidance.
- Promote sustainable and energy-efficient engineering solutions across all projects.

Requirements
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, or actively working towards chartership.
- Significant experience within a building services consultancy environment.
- Proven track record delivering mechanical design projects across sectors such as commercial, residential, healthcare, education, data centres, and mixed-use developments.
- Strong technical knowledge of:
- HVAC systems
- Heating and cooling systems
- Ventilation design
- Public health services
- Low-carbon and renewable technologies
- Building performance and energy efficiency strategies
- Proficiency with industry-standard software such as AutoCAD, Revit, IES, Hevacomp, and Cymap.
- Strong understanding of UK Building Regulations, CIBSE guidance, and relevant British Standards.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Commercial awareness with experience managing project budgets, programmes, and resources.

Desirable
- Previous experience operating at Associate or Principal Engineer level.
- Experience leading and developing engineering teams.
- Strong client network and business development experience.
- Knowledge of net-zero carbon strategies and sustainable design principles.
- Membership of CIBSE, IMechE, or another relevant professional institution.
