JPA Health is seeking an experienced, client-facing Associate Medical Director / Medical Director to join our growing Medical Communications team.
This individual will serve as a scientific leader across a diverse portfolio of medical affairs and scientific communications programmes, partnering with clients and internal teams to deliver high-quality, strategically grounded work. Combining scientific expertise, hands-on content development experience, and strong client-facing leadership skills, they will independently lead programmes across therapeutic areas, support organic growth opportunities, strengthen collaboration between JPA's UK and US medical teams, and help leverage AI-enabled tools to enhance efficiency and insight generation while maintaining the highest standards of scientific rigor and quality.
This position is full-time and may be based either hybrid in London or remotely within the UK, with occasional travel to the London office, client meetings, and conferences as needed.
Responsibilities
Medical & Scientific Leadership
- Lead medical affairs and scientific communications programmes across therapeutic areas and client accounts.
- Independently develop, review, and approve scientific content across advisory boards, congress materials, slide presentations, workshops, publications, videos, training materials, and other medical communications initiatives.
- Serve as a trusted scientific advisor to clients and internal team members, providing strategic guidance and scientific expertise.
- Support KOL engagement, advisory board development, and scientific meeting facilitation.
- Partner with account teams to ensure delivery of scientifically accurate, strategically relevant, and high-quality work.
Client Leadership & Growth
- Build trusted relationships with clients and contribute to organic growth opportunities across existing accounts.
- Support scientific portions of pitches, proposals, credentials presentations, and new business discussions.
- Identify opportunities to expand medical affairs and scientific communications support across client portfolios.
- Represent JPA at client meetings, conferences, and industry events as the scientific lead.

UK & US Collaboration
- Act as a key scientific resource across both JPA's UK and US medical communications teams.
- Partner with colleagues across geographies to share expertise, support account delivery, and strengthen integrated ways of working.
- Help identify opportunities to improve collaboration, consistency, and scalability across the broader medical communications practice.
AI-Enabled Innovation
- Leverage AI-enabled tools and emerging technologies to support literature analysis, content development, workshop creation, insight generation, and scientific communications workflows.
- Contribute to the ongoing evolution of AI-enabled medical communications practices across JPA.
- Ensure appropriate scientific oversight, validation, and quality control of AI-assisted outputs.
- Act as a champion for thoughtful, responsible adoption of emerging technologies within medical communications.
About You
Our ideal candidate must have:
- Advanced degree (PharmD, PhD, MD, or equivalent) in Biomedical Sciences or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience within a medical communications agency environment.
- Strong medical writing and scientific content development experience.
- Experience leading advisory boards, scientific workshops, congress activities, and medical affairs initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to operate independently and manage scientific programmes with minimal oversight.
- Broad therapeutic area experience and comfort working across multiple disease states.
- Strong presentation and client-facing communication skills.
- Interest in leveraging AI-enabled tools and emerging technologies to improve scientific communications workflows.
We would be thrilled if you also have:
- Experience supporting new business initiatives, pitches, or organic growth efforts.
- Experience working across global or multi-market programmes.
- Experience in a clinical, medical affairs, or pharmaceutical industry setting.
