Overview of Department

The Fund Performance team sits within the Middle Office function and is responsible for performance analysis across 17Capital’s Funds and Investments, servicing internal and external stakeholders. The team works closely with Fund Accounting, Client Services, Investment and Technology teams.

Position Summary

The Associate in Fund Performance supports the analytical output of the team. The role encompasses maintaining and enhancing calculation engines and reporting tools, Track Record production, dashboard development, and data governance. The individual will take ownership of assigned performance deliverables and act as a bridge between the Technology and Finance teams.

Role & Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Fund Knowledge & Performance Methodology

  • Achieve a detailed understanding of the fund's portfolio investments, Limited Partnership Agreements, Borrowing Facility Agreements, investment pipeline and FX/cash management policies
  • Develop thorough knowledge of 17Capital Metrics & Calculation Methodologies and explain calculation methodologies used in performance analysis to the rest of the business

Modelling and Performance Analytics

  • Review gross cash flows and valuations produced by the Investment Operations team
  • Support the quarterly valuations process by maintaining and enhancing the calculation engines and reporting tools in MS Excel and Power BI (maintain — not update — the valuations workbook/calculation engines)
  • Maintain and update the gross and net Track Record and Data Pack quarterly, releasing the Investment/Fund Track Record to the business to deadline
  • Produce bespoke investment performance analysis for the business — including Senior Leadership and individual investors — to support fundraising and ad-hoc enquiries
  • Build enhanced models for gross-to-net performance analysis, valuation and forecasting

Forecasting

  • Co-own the quarterly fund performance forecasting process with the team
  • Liaise with the Investment Team for individual investment inputs and with Client Services and Senior Leadership as end users of the outputs
  • Work with the Tech Team and Power BI to automate provision of forecasting data to Client Services

Power BI & Data/Technology

  • Develop new Power BI dashboards and automate reporting of forecasting, Track Record and gross-to-net performance outputs
  • Act as the link between Technology and Finance in the creation of new analysis, dashboards and models for the business
  • Work with the Tech Team to ensure data flow processes support Power BI production and that mappings from data warehouse to Power BI reports are accurate
  • Support the Investment Risk monitoring function by creating monitoring tools and dashboards for the investment portfolio and identifying risks
  • Shape, document and implement processes with adequate controls to ensure performance team data is captured and transferred between repositories accurately and efficiently
  • Ensure all data captured and utilised forms part of a structured data set
  • Collaborate with Fund Controllers to ensure timely provision of fund accounting data to support performance analysis
  • Review and re-structure data (e.g. gross portfolio and treasury data) for efficient input into Excel models and software solutions
  • Challenge and improve current processes around data governance and review so the business can be confident in the data and analysis produced

What is expected of you

As an Associate in Fund Performance, you support the analytical output of the team. You are personally accountable for:

  • Proactive stakeholder management — maintain all Performance trackers and logs on a daily basis and communicate status upward to the VP weekly; anticipate what your VP needs to know and surface it before being asked.
  • Ownership and accountability — own Track Record updates end-to-end and ensure timely, accurate release to the business.
  • Data ownership and governance — maintain and enhance the calculation engines and reporting tools that underpin 17Capital's performance analytics (accurate, documented, version-controlled); maintain Performance data within your remit on a weekly cycle — stale or unvalidated data is a control failure; support data governance initiatives and restructure data for quality, accessibility and efficient input to models and Snowflake.
  • Personal sign-off discipline — only sign off dashboards, data releases and analytical outputs that you have personally verified as correct.
  • Power BI dashboard delivery — build and maintain dashboards that meet the evolving needs of the business, ensuring data accuracy and alignment with underlying sources.
  • Quarterly valuations support — provide accurate and timely inputs and outputs to the quarterly valuations process.
  • Deal-level accountability — take full ownership of every deal within your remit; you are the accountable point of contact for each transaction assigned to you, personally responsible for its accuracy, timeliness and completeness.
  • Continuous improvement — proactively improve processes around data capture, governance and review; support investment risk monitoring through dashboard development and anomaly flagging.
  • Communicate proactively and anticipatorily with senior stakeholders within the team and with other business lines across 17Capital — provide active updates, flag developing issues, upcoming deadlines and emerging risks before they are asked about.

Person Specification

Required

  • Degree or professional qualification in Finance, Accounting, Maths or other highly numerical discipline
  • 2+ years' professional experience with knowledge of fund performance or financial analysis
  • Strong modelling and MS Excel skills
  • Highly analytical with strong attention to detail
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage deadlines
  • Strong data capability and data mindset
  • Strong analytical capability, with a natural curiosity to understand what data is telling you
  • Proactive with willingness to learn and develop
  • Good communication skills, written and oral
  • Interest in developing skills in using AI tools

  • Professional experience of dashboarding and analytics
