Associate Portfolio Manager - FX & Cross-Currency Basis
The Mandate
Trade FX forwards and cross-currency basis inside an established multi-manager, multi-strategy hedge fund pod. You run a risk allocation alongside the PM and build the Python tools that find, size and manage the trades. This is a risk-taking seat with a defined allocation, not a support role. Not a directional FX seat. The edge is in basis and funding dislocations, not macro views.
The Hard Questions (What You Will Solve)
- What is driving the basis: balance sheet costs, quarter-end funding or hedging flows, and how do you tell which one is in play?
- How do you size and hold a basis trade when funding costs move against you before it converges?
- How do you turn a trade idea into a repeatable framework in Python, from data and signals to sizing and risk, that still works when the size grows?

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
