We are looking for experienced and enthusiastic Associate Practitioner with a keen interest and good IT skills to join the team in Histology at the Bath Royal United Hospital.
An Associate Practitioner in Histology supports the Biomedical Scientist team in preparation, processing, and examination of tissue specimens for diagnostic purposes. The role involves performing routine laboratory procedures such as specimen reception, assisting at cut-up, embedding, microtomy, slide preparation and staining, ensuring high standards of accuracy and quality. Alongside this, the band 5 Associate Practitioner will provide IT support for the Cellular Pathology department, including maintenance, optimisation, and support of the laboratory IT systems and projects.
Strong attention to detail, organisational skills, a good level of IT competency, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team are essential.
Main duties of the job
In this key role, some of the key deliverables and responsibilities will include:
- Booking in specimens
- Assisting at cut-up
- Embedding
- Microtomy
- Digital Pathology
- Main lab assistance
- Slide filing
- IT support within Histology
- Attending IT associated meetings
- IT project involvement
