Associate Principal Scientist - In Vivo Pharmacology
An established, international drug discovery organisation is looking to appoint an Associate Principal Scientist to join its expanding In Vivo Pharmacology team. This is an opportunity to provide scientific leadership across a diverse portfolio of preclinical drug discovery programmes, working alongside biotechnology and pharmaceutical partners to help advance innovative therapies towards the clinic.
We Are Recruiting For Two Specialist Positions
- Associate Principal Scientist - Kidney Disease
- Associate Principal Scientist - Metabolic Disease
Candidates with additional expertise in inflammation will also be of interest.
Unlike roles focused on a single internal pipeline, this position offers exposure to a broad range of therapeutic areas, allowing you to influence multiple discovery programmes while collaborating directly with external clients and multidisciplinary scientific teams.
The Role
As an Associate Principal Scientist, you will lead complex preclinical research programmes, providing scientific direction from study design through to data interpretation. You will play a key role in developing translational strategies, implementing innovative experimental approaches, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality in vivo pharmacology studies.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, execution and interpretation of in vivo pharmacology studies within kidney disease, metabolic disease and/or inflammation programmes
- Provide scientific leadership across multiple client-sponsored drug discovery projects
- Act as Project Lead, coordinating multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality scientific outcomes
- Develop innovative experimental strategies and contribute to continuous improvements in scientific capabilities and workflows
- Collaborate closely with internal scientific teams and external partners to support study design, data interpretation and project progression
- Mentor junior scientists and contribute to the development of the wider team, with line management opportunities available depending on experience
About You
You will be an experienced preclinical scientist with a passion for translational drug discovery and a proven ability to lead complex in vivo research programmes.
You Should Have
- A PhD in a relevant life sciences discipline with industry or postdoctoral drug discovery experience, or a BSc/MSc with significant industrial experience
- Strong expertise in kidney disease, metabolic disease, and/or inflammation
- Extensive experience designing and delivering in vivo pharmacology studies within a drug discovery environment
- Experience with relevant ex vivo pharmacology techniques would be advantageous
- A strong understanding of preclinical drug discovery and translational research
- Knowledge of UK regulations governing in vivo research
- Experience designing studies, interpreting complex datasets and communicating scientific findings
- Excellent project management, organisational and stakeholder management skills
- The ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams while managing multiple projects simultaneously
