This is an entry level product management role and candidates are not expected to be able to perform all the duties right away.

However, candidates who are offered the role will be judged as performing successfully if:

• they are regularly and sustainably learning and developing their product management skills, and can meet the above responsibilities over their first six months.
• if they are successfully delivering product features to the timelines expected.
• if there is stakeholder alignment around the product plans.
• if their product increments are meeting quality standards.
• and finally, if they are positively contributing to both their teams and the wider profession community.

Successful candidates in this role are often able to progress into more senior product management roles if they wish to continue their career path at HMRC.

Essential Criteria

• Experience of understanding problems within a service, product or process, and finding a positive solution to resolve the issue.
• Ability to define product scopes and key features.
• Demonstration of strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
• Experience working with multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to analyse and incorporate user feedback and insights for product improvement.
• Demonstration of being able to prioritise between multiple requests, based on what is most valuable to do first, and recommend the course of action to take the work forward.

Desirable Criteria

• A degree in a relevant field such as Business, Information Technology, or Design is preferred but not always necessary.
• Prior experience of working in digital or product teams.
• Knowledge of how related practices like user centred services design or software engineering fits into the product development process.
• Professional certifications in product management, agile methodologies or ITIL can be advantageous.

Sift
