About the Role

We are seeking an Associate Professor in interior design at Northumbria University's School of Design, Arts and Creative Industries. The post-holder will deliver high-quality studio-based teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level and raise the profile and performance of our research and practice across the wider design sector.

We welcome applications from candidates with a track-record of research, scholarship, or practice-based enquiry in interior design, interior architecture, or a closely related field. You will bring an innovative approach to teaching and research, and place environmental and societal challenges at the centre of your work.

Interior design at Northumbria spans the commercial design of interior spaces, from retail environments to large-scale public visitor attractions. This is a senior academic appointment with scope to influence the direction of the subject, mentor colleagues, and build partnerships with industry and cultural organisations.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
