About the role

At National Grid, we own and operate the electricity transmission network that powers homes, businesses and communities across England and Wales. As part of our commitment to delivering a cleaner, more sustainable energy future, we are investing £29 billion in the decarbonisation of the UK’s energy system.

We are looking for 2 Associate Quantity Surveyors to join our teams in the Southwest (Bristol, Bridgwater/Exeter) and South Wales regions, to support the delivery of major infrastructure projects. This is an exciting opportunity to develop your commercial and contractual expertise while contributing to projects that are critical to the UK's net zero ambitions.

Working alongside experienced Quantity Surveyors and Project Teams, you will help ensure projects are delivered safely, on time and within budget, providing commercial support across a portfolio of complex construction and infrastructure works.

What You'll Be Doing

You will support the management of contracts and commercial activities across project packages and sub-projects. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with the commercial evaluation and assessment of contract proposals.
  • Supporting contractor payment applications and undertaking cost audits.
  • Reviewing contractor claims and helping assess the time and cost impacts of compensation events.
  • Assisting with the development and maintenance of project cost forecasts.
  • Taking ownership of smaller contracts, with guidance from senior colleagues, as part of larger project programmes.
  • Supporting project teams to ensure compliance with contractual obligations, timescales and National Grid governance requirements.
  • Contributing to contract risk reviews and helping identify commercial risks and opportunities.
  • Building strong working relationships with Project Managers, Planners, Senior Quantity Surveyors, contractors and other key stakeholders.
  • Proactively escalating issues and seeking support when required to ensure challenges are addressed early and effectively.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
