The Role

As an Associate Quantum Engineer, you'll contribute to the development of emerging quantum technologies and systems, helping to solve complex technical challenges while building capability in a rapidly evolving field. Your work will support the delivery of innovative solutions that strengthen our technical expertise and customer outcomes.

Day-to-day, you'll work as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, supporting the delivery of quantum engineering activities across the project lifecycle. You'll apply foundational knowledge of quantum technologies, systems engineering and physics to technical tasks, undertake analysis and modelling activities, contribute to technical documentation, and report progress to senior engineers and project stakeholders. You'll also support the identification of risks, issues and requirements while developing your technical and professional skills through practical project experience.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Undertaking technical work packages within a quantum engineering environment under appropriate supervision
  • Supporting the application of systems engineering principles to quantum technologies and related projects
  • Producing and maintaining technical documentation, reports and records of engineering activities
  • Contributing to modelling, analysis, testing and verification activities
  • Supporting project teams in managing technical risks, issues and requirements
  • Reporting progress and escalating technical challenges to senior engineers when required

Essential experience of the Associate Quantum Engineer:

  • Basic understanding of quantum engineering concepts including linear algebra, computational science and quantum physics
  • Knowledge of systems engineering principles and engineering lifecycle processes
  • Experience applying analytical and problem-solving skills to technical challenges
  • Ability to produce clear technical documentation and reports
  • Understanding of engineering risk, assurance and quality principles
  • Experience working collaboratively within a technical or engineering team

Essential qualifications for the Associate Quantum Engineer:

  • Degree qualification in Physics, Quantum Technologies, Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science or a related STEM discipline

This role is 37 hours per week based at our Malvern site with a minimum average site attendance of three days per week.

The Malvern facility is noted for its work in electronic warfare, surveillance and complex system integration, contributing significantly to the UK’s defence capabilities. Developing technologies for military and civilian applications, including sensors, communications and cyber security.
