The Role
The Band 5 practitioner role within the Safeguarding Children’s Team at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust involves supporting the team in advancing the safeguarding agenda and ensuring quality assurance across the trust. Key responsibilities include:
- Acting as an advocate for children, young people, and families
- Helping the trust meet statutory safeguarding obligations
- Ensuring health services for vulnerable groups follow safeguarding policies
- Promoting health and well-being education
- Assisting with child protection medical processes
- Supporting Safeguarding Children’s Nurses and escalating concerns
- Aiding Children in Care clinics
- Handling sensitive communications across agencies
- Fostering effective relationships within and outside the trust
- Advising external agencies on health matters related to safeguarding
- Participating in safeguarding audits

About the Trust
Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is situated on the west coast of Lancashire, with services covering the local authority areas of Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre. The Trust is part of the Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care System (ICS) supporting a population of around 1.6 million people.
We have three main hospitals providing acute services to around 330,000 local residents. The organisation also provides specialist tertiary care for cardiac and haematology services, delivers community health services to over 445,000 residents including those in North Lancashire and hosts the National Artificial Eye Service across England.
