Associate Scientist, Synthetic Chemistry
Proclinical is working alongside a growing biopharmaceutical organization and is seeking an Associate Scientist to join its expanding synthetic chemistry and drug discovery team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career synthetic chemist, organic chemist, or chemistry graduate to gain industry experience supporting the discovery of novel small-molecule medicines. Previous medicinal chemistry experience is not essential.
Location: Cambridge, UK
Sector: Pharmaceutical | Drug Discovery | Small Molecule Research
Working Pattern: Laboratory-based (5 days per week)
Contract: 12 Months
Responsibilities
- Synthesise and purify small-molecule compounds on milligram-to-gram scale
- Support synthetic route design and optimisation
- Use organic synthesis, chromatography, and preparative HPLC techniques
- Analyse and interpret NMR, LC-MS, and HPLC data
- Troubleshoot synthetic, purification, and analytical challenges
- Maintain accurate experimental records
- Present results and collaborate with multidisciplinary scientists
- Support safe and effective laboratory operations

Requirements
- BSc or MSc in chemistry, organic chemistry, synthetic chemistry, or a related discipline
- Practical synthetic chemistry experience gained through employment, an industrial placement, internship, or academic research project
- Knowledge of organic synthesis and compound purification
- Familiarity with NMR, LC-MS, HPLC, or chromatography
- Strong attention to detail, communication, and teamwork skills
