About the Role

The Associate Scientist is responsible for overseeing production activities of Recombinant Monoclonal and Polyclonal Antibodies, alongside driving optimisation activities and integrating new technologies and product groups into the team.

This position reports to the Production Manager and is part of the Cells & Antibody Team within In-House Manufacturing, located in Cambridge, UK, and will be an on-site, full-time lab-based role.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Deliver high-quality antibodies, cell lines, and lysates in line with team workload demands, while ensuring production and project objectives are achieved within agreed timelines and progress is communicated proactively to stakeholders.
  • Maintain high-quality standards within the lab, ensuring compliance with all external and internal quality standards, including ISO9001 and the associated documentation so the team is always in a state of audit readiness.
  • Mentor and coach junior colleagues, creating an engaging environment where they can develop and grow.
  • Transfer emerging technologies from R&D into manufacturing to create robust and scalable processes that build capability for the future.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement using skills such as 5S and the Lean 6 Sigma ideology.
  • Apply strong analytical and problem-solving skills to investigate complex issues, performing root cause analysis and implementing effective countermeasures.

Essential Requirements

  • Life Sciences degree or equivalent with extensive experience working in the Biotech industry.
  • Strong Cell Culture experience and practical expertise in Recombinant Antibody Production.
  • Strong Protein Purification background and practical expertise in Chromatography techniques using an ÄKTA system.
  • Proven ability to optimise, troubleshoot, and improve established protocols to enhance process performance, efficiency, and quality.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize, multitask, and work to deadlines.
  • Effective communicator, able to build collaborative relationships and facilitate constructive communication across local and global cross-functional teams.

It Would Be a Plus If You Also Possess

  • Experience in people management or a position of seniority.
  • Knowledge of the Danaher business system (DBS).
  • Previously worked to ISO9001 quality standards.
