Associate, Senior Associate or Legal Director (8+ PQE) – Real Estate I Commercial Property
REPORTING TO
Commercial Property Partners (Richard Whyte)
JOB PURPOSE
We have an opportunity for an Associate, Senior Associate or Legal Director to join the Real Estate practice, working on market leading Scots law investment and development transactions in sectors including offices, logistics, retail, leisure, build-to-rent and student and asset management work within those sectors for both landlord and tenant/occupier.

The role will be based in Edinburgh. You will play a vital role in major projects and deals, as well as running your own independent transactions for clients active in Scotland. Some of the work you will be involved in includes:
- Acting for private equity, High Net Worth Individuals, institutional funds and international investors on the full life cycle of investment real estate of their assets in Scotland
- Sales and purchases of investment assets, across all those sectors
- Asset management work on high profile HQ offices and other properties, to include lettings and advising on lease re-gears and variations, and similar
- Acting on redevelopment projects within city centres for build-to-rent, student and offices, and a brownfield regeneration project of national importance
CORE TASKS
- Working with, and supported by, Legal Directors, Senior Associates, Associates, Solicitors and Paralegals as part of the 'team' and working closely with our construction, planning, property litigation, tax, banking and corporate teams
- Shaping commercial solutions to problems and helping deliver transactions on time
- Negotiating sale and purchase contracts
- Title examination and lease reporting
- Drafting and negotiating leases, acting primarily for landlords/investors
- Dealing with all aspects of lease asset management, including re-gears
- Working on development projects
- Working alongside and helping support junior lawyers
- Harnessing IT to deliver work as efficiently as possible

PERSON SPECIFICATION & SKILLS
- Experienced in Scottish real estate transactions and sound understanding of Scots real estate law
- Takes a pragmatic and commercial approach to transactions
- Strong focus on client service and delivery
- Interest and enthusiasm for the property industry
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong written and oral communication skills for direct client contact and working with colleagues in other disciplines across the firm
- Keen to spot opportunities to develop business
- Communicates in a confident, clear and relaxed way and able to participate in business development objectives with clients and potential referrers
- Where appropriate takes responsibility for their own transactions and advice, subject to supervision
- Ability to deal with competing priorities and meet deadlines
- Shows understanding of clients’ needs, and tailors advice appropriately
- Works to understand the team's key clients, the industry they operate in and the challenges they face
