Shape the future of private wealth advice

Exceptional private wealth lawyers are increasingly looking for more than traditional private client work. They want intellectually stimulating matters, international exposure, sophisticated tax planning, and a genuine platform for career progression.

At Trowers & Hamlins, we're offering exactly that.

We are looking for an insightful, commercially minded Associate or Senior Associate to join our growing Private Wealth team in Exeter. This is an opportunity to work alongside leading private wealth partners on complex, high-value matters for wealthy individuals, families, entrepreneurs, trustees and family offices, both in the UK and internationally.

With a particularly strong international client base and extensive connections across the Middle East, this role offers exposure to cross-border structuring, succession planning, trust arrangements and tax-efficient wealth preservation strategies that are rarely available outside the largest private wealth practices.

Whether you're an ambitious lawyer already working on sophisticated private wealth and tax matters, or a more experienced practitioner at a smaller firm seeking access to higher-value and more complex work, this role offers an outstanding next step.

The Role

Why join us?

You will be joining a high-performing and ambitious team that is experiencing sustained growth and investment.

Working closely with Partners, Amanda Rainford and Frank Cook, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Advise high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth individuals, families and trustees.
  • Work on complex estate, succession and asset protection planning.
  • Deliver tax-efficient wealth structuring for UK and international clients.
  • Advise on residence, domicile and cross-border planning matters.
  • Draft wills, including sophisticated tax and trust structures.
  • Support clients with international connections.
  • Collaborate with specialist lawyers across tax, corporate, real estate and dispute resolution teams on multi-disciplinary matters.
  • Build trusted client relationships and play an active role in business development.
  • Develop your own profile within a nationally recognised private wealth practice.
  • Creation of onshore trusts including drafting and advising.
  • Probate planning and Estate Administration.
  • Powers of attorney.
  • Court of Protection matters.
  • Supervision, training and development of junior legal staff.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
