About the job

The Research and Development Risk team is looking for an Associate Software Developer. We build and support a cloud-native platform for SAS's financial-risk solutions, used by banks and insurers around the world. The platform runs on Kubernetes and is built from backend services, a SAS programming layer, a web UI, and tooling for deployment and testing.

We're a collaborative team that works on new features and customer support, and ships updates regularly. We value careful investigation, clear communication and sharing knowledge.

As an Associate Software Developer, you will:

  • Fix defects and make small improvements across the platform.
  • Write and maintain code and unit tests, following the team's existing patterns.
  • Add and maintain automated tests to keep the product reliable.
  • Help investigate reported issues and learn to find their root cause.
  • Track your work in Jira. Keep tickets up to date with progress, findings and fix details, and link each ticket to its pull request.
  • Open pull requests and take part in code reviews (yours and others').
  • Use AI-assisted development tools in your daily work and learn to check their output.
  • Ensure all applicable security policies and processes are followed to support the organization's secure software development goals.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, or one in progress, in computer science, engineering, mathematics or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Internships, coursework and personal projects count.
  • Programming experience in at least one language, such as Python, Go, Java or C#.
  • Basic SQL, such as writing SELECT queries with joins and filters.
  • Basic understanding of REST APIs and HTTP.
  • Basic familiarity with Git and the command line.
  • Curiosity and patience when debugging, and willingness to ask questions.
  • Clear written English.

Any exposure to SAS programming, for example from a university course or SAS certification. Some experience with Docker, Kubernetes or a cloud platform. Some experience with JavaScript or React. Interest in finance, banking or risk management.
