Role Overview
As an Associate Software Engineer at TP ICAP, you will be part of a technology team delivering business-critical software for internal broking users and external customers, contributing to both front-end and back-end engineering capabilities within Equities. This junior role is intended for a graduate or candidate with approximately a few years’ professional software engineering experience, working under the guidance of senior engineers, technical leads, and architects.
Role Responsibilities
- Contribute to the design, development, testing, and maintenance of front-end and back-end software components under the guidance of senior engineers and technical leads.
- Collaborate with engineering, architecture, business analysis, and QA teams to deliver solutions that meet business and technology requirements.
- Develop high-quality, maintainable code following established engineering standards, coding practices, and team conventions.
- Support software quality through unit testing, code reviews, defect resolution, and participation in testing and release activities.
- Participate in Agile delivery processes, providing regular updates on progress, risks, dependencies, and delivery commitments.
- Assist with troubleshooting, diagnosing, and resolving application issues while supporting production stability and operational excellence.
- Use modern engineering tools and practices including source control, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and issue management systems.
- Demonstrate ownership of assigned tasks, continuously develop technical skills across front-end, back-end, cloud, and database technologies, and actively contribute to team learning and improvement.

Experience / Competences
Essential
- Graduate-level qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, STEM, or equivalent practical software development experience.
- Experience in software development, or demonstrable capability through placements, internships, graduate programmes, personal projects, bootcamps, or early-career professional experience.
- Foundational knowledge of software engineering principles, including clean code, object-oriented design, debugging, testing, and maintainable development practices.
- Awareness of the full software development lifecycle, including requirements, development, testing, release, and support.
- Basic experience with one or more modern front-end technologies such as React, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, or similar.
- Basic experience with one or more back-end technologies such as C#,.NET, Java, APIs, services, databases, or messaging/event-driven systems.
- Practical experience using AI-assisted development tools to support coding, testing, debugging, documentation, and continuous learning while ensuring quality and accuracy of outputs.
- Awareness of relational databases and basic SQL concepts, including querying, data structures, and how applications interact with databases.
- Understanding of basic software testing practices, including unit testing, integration testing, test evidence, and defect fixing.
- Familiarity with source control and collaborative development workflows using tools such as GitLab or GitHub.
- Awareness of CI/CD concepts and how build, test, and deployment pipelines support reliable software delivery.
- Familiarity with Agile delivery practices and working collaboratively in a team environment.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to ask questions, provide status updates, and raise blockers early.
- Good attention to detail, a structured approach to tasks, and willingness to learn from feedback, code reviews, and team standards.
- Developing problem-solving capability, with the ability to investigate issues, break down tasks, and seek guidance appropriately.
- Delivery-focused mindset, with the ability to manage assigned tasks, balance priorities, and contribute reliably to sprint commitments.

Desired
- Exposure to financial services, trading platforms, market data, order management, or broking technology.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms and services, such as AWS or equivalent technologies.
- Awareness of front-end design systems, UI component libraries, browser compatibility, accessibility, or UX/UI design practices.
- Awareness of APIs, microservices, serverless architecture, distributed systems, or asynchronous messaging.
- Familiarity with issue management tools such as Jira.
